Cyclone Connect
August 2021
Note from Mrs. Whittaker
Cyclone Families-
We are excited to see your students next week! Our teachers, counselors, support staff, & custodians have been working hard to prepare our building for their return. We will continue our COVID cleaning protocol wiping desks after each period and asking students to sanitize their hands when exiting learning spaces. Please note, masks will be required to start the school year. Our goal is to keep our students in school while hosting as many activities and opportunities as possible this school year.
Please partner with us and encourage your students to check their email regularly as it's a major communication tool at Ottawa High School and will be in their world post-high school. We will also send monthly newsletters to families and use our website/social media outlets as a means to communicate.
We have many academic and extra-curricular opportunities for students. I encourage you to take a few moments to explore those options on our website by clicking the activities tab. In addition, we will host an activity fair at the end of the month as part of our Open House.
As we move through this school year, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! We look forward to partnering with you during the upcoming school year. We appreciate every one of you!
9th Grade & New Student 1/2 Day, Monday, August 16th
I am Matt Lancaster, Ottawa High School's assistant principal, and I speak for all of us when I say that we are so excited to meet you on Monday, August 16 for the freshman/new student half day and welcome you to OHS! You're going to love being a Cyclone.
Our day will start at 7:45 AM in the Cyclone Room with donuts and juice. Ms. Whittaker will speak with you, then you'll rotate through four stations to learn about how things work here at the high school. You'll then get to walk through your schedule and meet your teachers for shortened class periods before getting hot dogs, chips, and soda in the Cyclone Room at 11:30 where you'll be dismissed for the day.
A couple of important pieces of information:
- Please bring your fully charged Chromebooks along with their cases and chargers - if you are new to the district, this doesn't apply to you, as you'll be receiving your device on this day.
- If you need bus transportation, you should have completed the bus enrollment form as part of the enrollment process. That form can be found at https://ottawaks.sites.thrillshare.com/page/enrollment-information. Masks are required on district buses. If you have questions about transportation, please call that department at (785) 229-8040.
- There is no official OHS supply list - standard supplies like notebooks, paper, folders, pencils, etc. will suffice to start the year.
We can't wait to see you on the 16th! If you have any questions, please let me know.
Best,
Matt Lancaster
