Bookie: Thank You, Omu! by Oge Mora
- Sharing is a lot like giving thanks- they both bring people together. Everyone in the neighborhood dreams of a taste of Omu's delicious stew! One by one, they follow their noses toward the scrumptious scent. And one by one, Omu offers a portion of her meal. Soon the pot is empty. Has she been so generous that she has nothing left for herself?
ZOOM Read Aloud Event will be Sunday, November 26th @6pm. The link is emailed to parents by Sunday afternoon. Please fill out the form below to be emailed the link
π Arrival Procedures
As a reminder we are entering the season of colder and snowier weather, but having students get out of all vehicles within that white box helps move the line along and prevents stops and starts.
- Our doors open for learning @7:25am!
Please continue to follow the cones all the way to the back of the parking lot vs. cutting across the middle. This helps with flow of traffic.
Please have your child exit the vehicle anywhere within the white box in the arrival map picture vs. only having them exit at the main doors.
Have your child ready to exit the vehicle.
π½οΈ MONTHLY LIMITED TIME LUNCH OFFERING
This month Aramark's monthly limited time entrΓ©e will highlight flavors from the Mediterranean with Spicy Tzatziki Beef Gyro. This dish features cucumbers and will be offered Nov. 13th-17th. Students simply need to let their teacher know they want the monthly special.
Did you know cucumbers were brought to the New World in the late 15th Century by Christopher Columbus. There are different varieties of cucumbers based on their uses. Persian cucumbers are the βregularβ cucumbers we see often. Gherkin cucumbers are used to make pickles, and apple cucumbers are small, round, and about the size of a baseball. To maximize the nutritional content, cucumbers do not need to be peeled. The skin and seeds can be used when preparing for salads, picos, or salsas. Cucumbers are made up of mostly water, but also contain vitamins A, C, and B6.
It has been great to see so many of our students trying new foods and discovering new favorite meals.
βοΈ Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather, you will receive a message from the school and information will be posted to local news stations. In the event of a school cancellation, please know this will be a snow day with no remote learning. To accommodate possible emergency days without adding days to the end of the year, there are 3 built into our school calendar. This allows us to hopefully be finished prior to Memorial Day and not add as many make up days to the end of the year.
Similar to last year we have 3 emergency days have been build into our calendar. This allows us to hopefully be finished prior to Memorial Day and not add as many make up days on to the end of the year.
The following Mondays we will not be in session unless an emergency day is used:
- Monday, May 6th
- Monday, May 13th
- Monday, May 20th
If we do have emergency days we will have session on the above Mondays depending on how many we need. Our other two emergency days will be after May 24th and May 25th.

π The Importance of Gratitude
βPiglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold rather a large amount of Gratitude.β
βA. A. Milne
According to the Greater Good in Education Website, in the past couple of decades, hundreds of studies have documented the social, physical, and psychological benefits of gratitude.
Gratitude promotes emotional well-being.
- Youth (ages 10-19) who are more grateful report greater happiness and life satisfaction and more positive emotions overall, as well as less depression and envy.
Gratitude relates to physical health.
- As with adults, youth who are more grateful feel better physically, and practicing gratitude helps adolescents eat more healthily.
Gratitude helps students do better in school.
- Gratitude makes students more satisfied with their school experiences, and, on average, more grateful students get better grades.
Gratitude cultivates altruism.
- Refuting the idea that gratitude is selfish, more grateful adolescents feel more connected to their communities and more motivated to use their gifts to contribute to society.
- Practicing gratitude also helps make adolescents less materialistic and more generous.
Gratitude strengthens relationships.
- More grateful young people report feeling higher levels of social support; they also show more prosocial, or kind and helpful, behavior towards others.
π Curriculum Updates
This month, K-6 students will be moving into module 2 and beginning module 3 at various time depending on the class. Below you will find two graphics that share grade levels essential questions and the social emotional/learning mindset focus.
Social Studies
This month, grades 4th-8th will be wrapping up topic 2. Topics can last anywhere from 5-6 weeks. Below you will find the graphic that shares grade level questions and social emotional focus.

π« #LWRocketsRead Book Wishes
Readers thrive when they are surrounded by a supportive reading community. I curated this list over the last couple of years that covers a wide variety of ages, genres, topics, themes, etc. Your purchase means it will be shipped directly to the school, find its way into a classroom, and have a label with who donated it! Please make sure to include your name when purchasing.
Please feel free to share our list with family and friends! I can't wait to see where our farthest book comes from!
π PTO Points
Our PTO meets the first Monday of the month at 7pm in the library. This is a great way to get involved in fundraisers and activities that support our school. If in person doesn't work for you, they also have a virtual Zoom option. The links are always emailed out closer to the date.
