From Sauces to SWAT: Culinary Arts & Criminal Justice

Head Start Head Start

Head Start teaching staff have “taken a dive’ into their student assessment data and are using it to drive the lesson planning process. The results of the Fall assessment provided them with baseline data to assist them in planning related to specific objectives for specific students individually and/or as a group. Their weekly lesson plans reflect the individualized planning and the associated instruction provides opportunities for assessing progress toward meeting the specific objective(s).

Special Education Special Education

Special education teacher Marie Herring, the Skills for Life students and the peer tutors from Morton High School went to South Lake Mall on Friday. The objective of this outing was for the students to work on social, communication and money skills in a community setting. They shopped for certain items, learned to navigate the stores and had to handle any money exchanges in order to purchase their items.

Besides a fun and educational experience, what is most impressive is that there are more than 40 peer tutors at Morton, most of them seniors, who sign up to provide time, compassion and role modeling opportunities for the special needs students.

You go Governors!

Technology Technology

Starting this week, we are adding a disclaimer to all emails from senders outside of SCH. This will be in all your emails if they don’t come from inside:

EXTERNAL MAIL: This email message originated from outside SCH. Do not click any links or open any attachments unless you trust the sender and know the contents are safe.

This disclaimer is one way to help you identify possible fake emails, or phishing. Here are some helpful tips on all of your emails:

    • Look for anything out of place or suspicious.
    • Look for misspellings or grammatical irregularities.
    • Look at the sender’s email address - the name may be familiar, but if the address isn’t “someone@hammond.k12.in.us”, it’s suspicious.
    • Look at the signature. Almost everyone signs their name, and not “HR Department” or “IT Department.”
    • When in doubt, fall back to voice communication. It’s better to call the possible sender than risk an information or financial breach.
    • Take care what information is sent over email. Never send personally identifiable information (PII) such as your credit card numbers or passwords, or sensitive information (e.g., OTHER people’s credit card numbers or passwords). Remember that you have no control over information after it’s reached the recipient.
