GLOBE International Festival happens this Sunday, October 16!
Dear GLOBE families,
I hope you all had a wonderful fall break. I would like to draw your attention to the following two in-person events that are coming up in the next few days.
Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations
On Friday, October 14, families of Spanish track students are invited to come and watch our Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. The Lower Campus event starts at 9am and Upper Campus at 1pm. Check the campus notes below for further details.
GLOBE International Festival
Everyone is invited to our largest social event, International Festival, which takes place this Sunday, October 16.
The festival includes:
• Two food trucks
• Performances
• Cultural education
• Games
We also have great POTLUCK selections, where attendees to the festival volunteer to bring (nut free) dishes to share from around the globe. Signup here to bring a dish.
The performances not only reflect varied world cultures, but also include GLOBE students past and present. You don't want to miss the interactive entertainers nor the fun games and activities. Wear your ethnic or national dress for the parade, bring blankets and chairs and join in the festivities.
International Fest is also the perfect opportunity to put in some volunteer hours. There are still plenty of opportunities to volunteer, here.
All this specialness will be happening outside at the park at Lower Campus, on Sunday, October 16, from 12pm to 4pm. Please do not forget to be a good neighbor when parking for this event. Do not block driveways or mailboxes.
A BIG thank you to Anya Parks and Rina Kesler for all their hard work heading this up along with all the volunteers to make this event happen for our beloved community.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director
Campus notes - Lower Campus
Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, 9am, October 14
Spanish track students (Kindergarten through 3rd grade) will be performing at 9am. Please note, that due to limited space, the event is only open to LC families with students in the Spanish track.
We would like to share some pictures of the hallway decorations around LC as we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Campus notes - Upper Campus
Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, 1pm, October 14
Spanish track students will perform in the UC Auditorium, from 1pm to 3pm. Due to limited spacing, the event is only open to UC families with students in the 4th to 8th grade Spanish track. Please come directly to the front of the school (Auditorium entrance).
As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, 5th grade students received instruction on how to make Colombian Arepas. Thank you very much to parents Sandra and Sam Philip for sharing their precious time and expertise for this fun (and delicious) activity.
Peace Week 2022, October 24–28
Beginning on October 24, GLOBE students and staff will celebrate a week of kindness and unity with a series of activities and a community project. This year's Peace Week theme is Reach Out: Building Community.
Reading Club on Wednesday afternoons
The Upper Campus is proud to be offering the possibility for students to compete in this year's Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl (HRRB). We will be hosting a Reading Club on Wednesday afternoons where students can join, read the books, and practice for the competition. Mr. Cunningham will be working with our 4th and 5th grade students and Ms. Garvin will be working with 6th to 8th grade students. The club will meet after school on Wednesdays. Spirit Night at Chipotle
PTCC GLOBE Spirit Nights provide an opportunity for our community to gather together, while also earning funds to help support GLOBE. The selected vendors for each of the Spirit Nights agree to donate a portion of the profits to GLOBE.
Our next Spirit Night will be at Chipotle, 2078 Henderson Mill Rd NE, Atlanta, GA, 30345, on October 19, from 4pm to 8pm. You can order online for pickup using code LQT7DLZ or you can dine in. Make sure you bring the flyer (or take a pic on your phone) to Chipotle to ensure that PTCC receives the donation from your purchase.
Join PTCC PACs
We are looking for someone to help with our fundraising and our global awareness PAC (Parent Action Committee). This includes helping to coordinate spirit wear, spirit nights and help with our auction. If you are interested, please send us an email.
