Great things are happening at WCS!

This week Seventh grade started the Reading Buddies program. Each Seventh grader is paired with a Kindergarten buddy. During study hall on Fridays, the pairs meet to read together!

EMERGENCY DRILLS

Did you know that K-8 schools in Maine are required to do 10 fire drills each year? 2 have to be done within the first two weeks of school! We are proud to have completed our second fire drill, safely and swiftly. Students waited calmly for direction and then returned quietly back to classes! WAY TO GO!

VOLUNTEERS

Beach trips! Science Olympiad! Museum visits! There will be many fun opportunities for volunteering this year, and the first step to joining in the fun is completing a volunteer application. This annual application allows you to be part of the excitement in the classroom and on field trips. Making sure that this is completed at the start of the year gives you the option to participate in as many activities as you'd like without worrying about if you'll be approved in time. WCS PICTURE RETAKES

Soggy Dog Designs was here on Friday to take school pictures for students in grades Pre-K through 7. 8th graders will be having their individual and class photos taken next Friday (9/22.) That will also be picture re-take day for those who missed it today!

8th GRADE FLOW TRIP

This week our 8th grade students participated in the FLOW program (Fundamental Learning On Water) at Chewonki. From Tuesday to Friday, students canoed to various islands in Hockomock Bay, participated in many cooperative activities and games, and practiced their wilderness skills while camping. They learned about sustainable living by taking care of animals at the farm and processing the compost. Everyone returned to school happy, tired and only a little damp!

ANNUAL UPDATE PROCESS

Primary guardians have been asked to complete the annual update process online. If you need assistance getting this done, please contact the office and we'll work with you! Please note that until this process is done, your student will not be able to attend field trips! We also use this process to verify your emergency contact information. If you are a primary guardian and have not done so, please complete this process today.

Join us on Thursday, September 21st from 5:30-7:00 pm for our Open House! This is a great chance to tour the school, meet teachers and connect with friends!

Please remember to sign and return the bright orange cellphone policy/handbook acknowledgement. These forms were sent home this week; the handbook side needs to be completed regardless of if your student has a cellphone. Please let the office know if you need another copy!
