Internationally Speaking, with Principal Bryant
Dear Silver Spring International Families,
What a fantastic turnout at Monday's Back to School Night event! Hundreds of parents & caregivers walked the halls of the school meeting teachers and navigating their child's classroom schedule. It was wonderful to see so many folks in the building! Thank you for coming and for providing feedback for us to review in planning for our next evening event and next year's Back to School Night. If you did not get a chance to share your feedback with us, please access the link below to do so. I appreciate your feedback.
We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at school! We value this opportunity to pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic/ Latin Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society. We have fun learning opportunities for students all month long. We hope your child will join in the fun.
Enjoy the weekend 🐾

Dear MCPS Families,
Here is an update on COVID-19 as we wrap-up the third week of school. Though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 Community Risk Level for Montgomery County is “low,” we are seeing an expected modest rise in positive COVID-19 cases reported to MCPS, after summer travel and the return to school. The highest number of positive tests so far were reported last week, after Labor Day weekend. Fortunately, fewer positive cases are being reported this week.

Traffic Loop Safety @ SSIMS
Please help us maintain a safe student drop off/pick up process for our children. Let's pitch in to keep them safe!
I encourage caregivers to allow your child to ride the school bus, if you are eligible for bus services. This is a huge help to deter traffic congestion.
If you must use private transportation, please follow these simple guidelines for safe navigation of the drop off/pick up loop:
- ARRIVE NO EARLIER THAN 7:30 AM.
- AVOID ENTERING THE BUS LOOP (Schuyler Road)
- Pull all the way around the traffic loop before stopping. Do not seek to drop your child off directly in front of the school if there is empty space in front of your car. This allows the maximum amount of cars behind you to pull safely into the traffic loop and off of Dale drive.
- Children should exit your vehicle on the CURB-SIDE of the car.
- The left side of the loop is for active traffic. You may pull away from the curb, into the left side to proceed to the loop exit after dropping off your child.
- RIGHT TURN ONLY onto Dale drive when exiting the loop during drop off/ pick up times. Please adhere to this request for safety.
- Please DO NOT get out of your car to look for your child. Remain in your vehicle at all times.
- USE THE LOWER PARKING LOT/TRAFFIC LOOP ON WAYNE AVE .*
*NOTE: When using the lower parking lot, you must either park in an available space, or pull all the way around the loop (lining the perimeter of the driveway) to await your child at dismissal. AVOID STOPPING/PARKING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE STAIRCASE. The driveway is narrow. You may have to wait for the entire line to move in order to exit. The good part about this lot is you can actually exit onto Wayne Ave. Finally, DO NOT STOP ON WAYNE AVENUE TO DROP OFF YOUR CHILD. This is a safety hazard.
Let's work together to keep our children safe during arrival and dismissal. Thank you!

Music Department and Music Boosters Welcome Back Ice Cream Social
Please join the SSIMS Music Department and SSIMS Music Boosters for a welcome back gathering. Whether you are in an ensemble class (band, orchestra, or chorus), a music class (guitar or piano), or just love music, join us.
Come and meet SSIMS families and learn about the music classes your students are in and ways to engage with the music department outside of school as well through different types of programming. We will also discuss how we can advocate for the music department and different fundraisers throughout the year.
Please let us know if you can join. * Non Dairy options will be available. We will be meeting outside the music department classrooms!
We look forward to seeing you.
