Coronavirus is THE hot topic with everybody these days. Due to the Governor's Mandate we are all trying to make the best out of a very difficult situation. Thank you all for being so patient since we are all in unchartered waters and are figuring out the best way to serve our students during this unprecedented time. Know that we (the staff) miss you all (students and parents) immensely and worry how learning is going for you. All teachers are working on a second packet of at home learning materials for you and vetting out the best online learning resources. Plans for distribution of these is going on as this is being typed so hopefully, you will have more information very soon. In the meantime, many resources have been posted at the bottom of our school website. Look for Documents a the very bottom left hand side of the webpage. This will lead you to a page that lists At Home Learning Resources Folder. There are already many resources that you may find helpful at this time. Mrs. Evans has a folder here that has resources especially for her class. More resources will be added soon. Many of these resouces have been sent out to parents through text notifications. The Vaughan Elementary PTA Facebook Page is another great place to look for information and resources. Each time a text notification is sent, it is also posted here. Other resources and pictures are posted here occassionally as well. Teachers should be making contact once a week either by phone, email, or ClassDojo. Please check Class Dojo daily if at all possible. If you need assistance with getting a ClassDojo code to link to your child's class, feel free to contact Mrs. Paynter through email or you may call or text her at 252-629-1336. Please remember to tell who you are and who your child is so that she can best help you.

Even though our time at school was shortened during the month of March, it was jam packed with events and memorable moments. We celebrated Read Across America and Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd and it was a very busy day! We began the day with Mrs. Brayboy from the Warren County Board of Education reading to us on the school news. Mrs. Elevlon Mason came by and read with kindergarten, first and second grade students and donated some much needed school supplies. The members of Littleton United Methodist Church came by and handed out books to all our students. At lunch we had cake and chips. Then at the end of the day, students who met their February reading goals were invited to a Dr. Seuss party in the gym where we played party games. It was an incredibly busy day! We are so appreciative of all the community members who came out and supported that day.

The following week our Elementary Battle of the Books (EBOB) team represented us at the District EBOB Competition at Mariam Boyd Elementary School. While we didn't place as high as we would have liked to, we loved the books we read this year and enjoyed the competition. Congratulations is extended to Northside's EBOB team on the win!

While March is not done yet, it feels like it has already delivered on a very impressive April Fool's Day prank that is not so funny, nor has it ended yet. Since we will not be at school, I would LOVE to highlight how you are learning at home. Parents, if you will send me a picture of your child working on school work at home, I will try to post them either to the Vaughan PTA Facebook page or to April's newsletter. Know that by sending it to me, you are giving me permission to post it publicly.
