Week of October 10, 2022
Arrival and Dismissal Update
As a reminder the doors close promptly at 8:55 and 12:45 for arrival. After that time you will need to bring your student in through the main office. Most classes are all present by 8:50 and 12:40. Please remember that as 3 & 4 year olds it is hard to wait in line for those coming at the end of the drop off times. We will be moving towards a 5 minute window for arrival by the start of January as the routine gets more and more comfortable for students.
Dismissal times have a 5 minute window. Dismissal for AM is 11:25 and PM is 3:10 for door 1 and 3:15 for doors 3 & 5. Please call us if you are running late as the students will be then moved to wait in the ELC office for you and will be brought to the main office when you arrive.
Thank you!

Meet the Staff
Ms. Chris Sanford- I am going into my 28th year of teaching in the Attleboro Public Schools. I have my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education and a Master's degree in Early Literacy for Young Children. I feel so lucky to be a preschool teacher and be surrounded by creative and loving students. Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a teacher. One of my favorite things is to connect with families in order to support the students and engage in strong educational values. Ashley, Ellie and Kyle are my amazing children who mean the world to me. In my spare time, I like to travel to Stowe, Vermont and visit family in Pennsylvania. The ELC is a special place that I will always call my second home.
Ms. Traci- I have been a paraprofessional for the last 34 years in the Attleboro Public Schools. Ms. Chris and I have worked together for the past 27 years. My favorite part of the day is "make something." I love watching the children create their own art. I'm married to my husband Mike, and have two daughters, ages 27 and 20. I cannot imagine a more rewarding job than mine.
Welcome Back Night
Birthdays
Absences
Research has shown that preK attendees had stronger literacy skills once they reached the first grade ( Haslip, 2018).
Harvest Night
Students may contribute an item that is related to theme or they may contribute a few dollars towards the purchase of the item. Again contributions are voluntary and appreciated.
Please send in your contribution in by Friday October 21st to ensure adequate time to assemble the baskets. Proceeds from the raffle of the baskets help to defer the cost of field trips and many special programs for the Thacher/ ELC students.
Big thank you to those who have donated! We have bought items for the baskets (i.e. hooded towels, blankets, bubble baths) with the monetary donations.
The Autism Waiver Service
The DDS Autism Division runs a program for low-income children with autism called the Children's Autism Services Waiver Program. This program serves children under the age of 10 who meet both the clinical and financial eligibility that includes having/obtaining MassHealth Standard Insurance. The Autism Services Waiver Program allows children to receive Expanded Habilitation, Education, in-home services and supports, such as Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and Floor Time, for a total of up to 3 years. At the conclusion of the three years of the intensive in-home services, a child may access ongoing Supplemental Services (for example respite and goods and services, etc.) that meet the child’s needs until the child’s 10th birthday. Currently, the program serves approximately 400 children a year. While the program is near capacity, we are expanding the number of participants and there is a high rate of turnover in the program every year, so we looking to have a new pool of applicants to draw from to fill open slots.
The Autism Division is accepting new application requests for families interested in this program between the dates of October 14, 2022 and October 31, 2022. Applications must be postmarked or emailed from a parent/guardian no later than October 30, 2022.
Attached are copies of the Autism Waiver Program Open Request Application and Open Request Family Overview both in English and Spanish that can be shared with families. The application form, family notice and related materials in multiple languages are available on the DDS website https://www.mass.gov/dds-autism-waiver-service-program-overview
