The high school transcript is a record of the final grades and high school credits that you have earned throughout your middle school (if applicable) and high school career. The transcript also includes your Grade Point Average (GPA) and class rank.
As part of your cumulative school records, which are legal documents, the transcript is often accepted as a form of identification by various agencies including the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Social Security Administration. The high school transcript is also required by most colleges and universities as a supplement to your application to their institution and by the military if you are enlisting.
As a general rule, these agencies and institutions require an “Official Transcript” which means the transcript must be signed by a school official, stamped with the school seal and enclosed in a sealed envelope to be opened by the intended party. If received already opened, the transcript is considered “Unofficial” and may be considered void.
