Wrapping up the Month...
We are ExExExCited to wrap up the elite month of January! We have three more days until the month of LOVE is at our door! We have maintained our decrease in discipline issues and increased our positive referrals! I am so proud of all our staff that are using our Positive Referral System and recognizing the ELITE accomplishments of our scholars on a day to day basis!
Huge thank you to our 6th grade team who is continuing their focus on building relationships. We know that it is all about RELATIONSHIPS. From using proportions and creating equations to represent real life situations in math, to learning how to develop a model that demonstrates the interaction between unequal heating and the Earth’s rotation in Science, we have been working real hard to see that relationships exists all around us. In addition, students have been learning about the relationships that exists amongst an author’s point of view and purpose for writing, when analyzing texts. However, our relationships are not stopping there. Our students are about to explore the geography of Latin America and the impact their location, culture, and climate has on its people!
We have great events planned for February including the sale of Candy Grams and a Valentines Dance after school!
Please make sure that you are signed up for my REMIND, as well as the grade level REMINDS so you don't miss a beat! I have found some glitches with the REMIND and some parents have signed up for the one I use for teachers and staff. I have removed you from that REMIND, so please make sure you are still linked in to the one that is called BCMS Community. The link is at the bottom of this newsletter.

Notes from Ms. Raeburn -
Let's Talk About GRADES!
In January, my notes section will focus on grading, specifically grading in the middle school!
This week will be our first "Safety Net" check of the semester. On January 31st, all teachers will be required to report which (if any) scholars are earning an F in their class and the "why" behind it. If your child is not passing any of his/her classes, the teacher should have made contact with you. The end of the quarter is the first week of March.
Things to remember if your child is earning below his/her expected performance:
When unexpected or poor results come in, research shows that reacting with frustration, anger, lecturing or punishment isn’t the best way to get better results.
Consistent and responsive parenting will do more good than a punitive approach.
Give and seek specific feedback on your child’s progress – especially the reasons behind any unexpected results. Talk to your child's teacher!
Remember, our grade books are "rolling". That means they don't ever "finalize" or cut - off. Please be proactive and check your child's PowerSchool on a regular basis. If you do not have access to PowerSchool, please call us and we can send you grade reports home. Your child's teacher will also be the best contact to get specifics about grades.
Other notes:
Please take time to recognize someone at BCMS who has made a difference in your child's life. The form is below!
Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! If you have a concern or a comment, please do not hesitate to email or call me: eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630.
