Countdown to Reading STAAR

It's not too late to help our students down the final stretch to STAAR. In this seminar, we will plan for six weeks of targeted reading instruction and interventions based on student data. We will break down the readiness TEKS student expectations into learning targets and success criteria. We will determine exactly what students need to learn and practice.

How do we help our students master the thinking needed for meets and masters level performance on STAAR? Using the Texas Performance Level Descriptors, we will match up instructional strategies that have the most impact on growth.

During this seminar, experience activities and projects that target specific STAAR reading and writing processes, skills and strategies. Discover the difference between test review and test practice and how to incorporate both into daily instruction. You will leave with ideas and activities to help you create an action plan that maximizes practice time and provides “just right” practice for each student. Learn motivation and goal setting techniques to use with students.

We will explore several proven ways to help students take accountability for their growth and help them overcome test anxiety.

For some students, we need to provide direct instruction and on-going decoding practice. In this seminar, we will look at specific intervention strategies that will give your students the strategies they need to figure out unknown words.

Many students lack the background knowledge need to make the inferences that skilled readers naturally make. We will explore ways to help students build and use background knowledge to comprehend the texts.

Specifically designed for Grades 3-8, ELAR teachers, Special Education Staff, Resource Teachers, Title I Staff, Reading Interventionist, Campus Instructional Coaches, Administrators, and any Educators working with students in the area of Writing.
