A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
During the week of May 1st, Thompson K-5th grade students will take the NWEA MAP Math and Reading benchmark assessments. Each test will take approximately 40 to 60 minutes to complete and will be administered on different days. The results of the test will be used to measure your child's academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year.
Measurements of Academic Progress (MAP®) tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s appropriate level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward school.
Please remind your child to take their time, do their best, and review these test-taking tips.
Before the Test:
- Develop a positive attitude. Tell yourself, “I will do my best on this test.”
- Get a good night’s sleep the night before the test.
- Get up early enough to avoid rushing to get to school on time.
- Eat a healthy breakfast.
During the Test:
- Relax and stay calm.
- Listen carefully to the directions the teacher gives.
- Ask questions if you do not understand what to do.
- Read each question carefully. Find the key words. Try to figure out what the question is really asking.
- Read the entire question and look at ALL the answer choices before you make your answer choice.
- Use strategies you learned in class to figure out the answer.
- Take your time!
Have a wonderful day!

LEADER IN ME MRA SURVEY
Thompson Elementary School is implementing a whole-school transformational process called the Leader in Me, which teaches 21st-century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.
Our school will be conducting surveys to learn more about key areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our school. In order for us to have a holistic picture of what is going on in our school, we are asking all full-time staff members, parents/guardians, and students in Grade 4 and up to participate.
Parent Participation
If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete a survey (without sharing your name or other identifying information) that will be available through this survey link.
The survey is completely voluntary, but we do hope to get feedback from one member of every household. The parent/guardian survey takes about 12 minutes to complete and will ask questions about your child and about his or her experience in our school. If you have more than one child attending the school, you will be asked to think about the oldest child's experiences as you answer questions related to his or her growth.
Please complete the survey by May 11, 2023.
