Dear 2023-24 Kindergarten Families!

If you are a new family, I'd like to be the first to offer an official welcome to the Archer Glen community. If you are a returning family with a newly enrolled younger sibling, we are very happy to continue partnering with you to give your child the best educational experiences we can.

This special edition newsletter is to provide our new and returning families with the information you need to successfully start the school year with your soon-to-be Kindergarten student. Note: On June 7th, 2023, the Sherwood School Board approved a Revised District Calendar that moves the start of the school year up by one day. All dates below are the newly revised dates.

Start of School Year Dates

August 30 - September 1 - Kindergarten Orientation

• Incoming K students attend one of the three orientation days
• Students will be assigned by last name alpha order. Days assignments will be sent out on August 15th.

September 5 and 6 - Kindergarten Ramp Up

• All Kindergarten students attend both days
• Students may work with different teachers and groups of students

September 7 - No school for Kindergarten students

• No school for Kindergarten students while teachers make placement decisions
• Class lists are sent out by 3:30 pm

September 8 - Regular school schedule w/ assigned teacher

Registration for our incoming Kindergarten class is available online using the link below. Incoming Kindergarten students must turn 5 prior to September 1. Registering early helps the school and district start planning for the fall.

Online Kindergarten Registration

During online registration, new families will create a Sherwood ParentVUE account. Parents of current and former Sherwood students will log in with their existing ParentVUE account. Paper Registration

Families are also welcome to register using paper registration. Paper registration packets can be picked up from the Archer Glen front office.

This summer, incoming Kindergarten families will have more opportunities to meet staff and other families at Kinder Playdates. Kinder Playdates are 1-hour play times on the Archer Glen playground. They include arts and crafts and an introduction to the Kindergarten teachers and school principal. No registration required. Kinder Playdates will be held on July 20 and August 3 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm on the Archer Glen playground.

Family are invited to the Archer Glen Meet & Greet (formerly known as Supply Night) on August 28th from 4 to 6 PM in an open house format. Students will have a chance to meet their new teacher, see their classroom, and drop off supplies in the classroom. Families are invited to stay for a PAC hosted BBQ and spend time with friends on the playground.

The 2023-24 school supply list can be found HERE. Families are encouraged to attend the Archer Glen Meet & Greet to drop off their school supplies. This is very helpful to the start of the school year. The Meet & Greet is Monday, August 28th from 4 to 6 PM.

The Sherwood School District has a Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion Program at Hawks View Elementary. This program is available to students in any of the four elementary boundary areas. See the following page to learn more about the program and the steps to applying for enrollment: Dual Language Immersion. Applications are due by April 28 @ 8:00 AM. Enrollment is conducted by lottery the following week.

If you’re enrolling your student or looking to move to Sherwood, you may locate the schools for a home address using our online Boundary Map. Enter your address in the upper left corner to search. Contact Kami Golden at kgolden@sherwood.k12.or.us or 503-825-5011 with boundary questions.

The school day begins at 7:55 a.m. with doors opening at 7:45 for general arrival. Students eating breakfast at school may arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. The school day ends at 2:15 p.m., with the exception of Wednesday when school dismisses at 1:15.

The first few days of school for Kindergarten students will look a bit different from other grade levels as we "ramp-up" to Kindergarten. This schedule gives your child a comfortable start to the school year and gives us time to get to know your child before they are placed in their permanent classroom.

Your child will be invited to one of the three orientation days. They will spend this day doing fun activities with all Kindergarten teachers in a small group setting. "Ramp-Up Days" on Sept 5 & 6

All Kindergarten students attend the full school day (7:55 am - 2:15 pm). During these two days, students will spend time in each Kindergarten classroom with a variety of students and staff.
