MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy September Lakeview Families,

It truly has been such a great start to the school year! I've enjoyed seeing students back in the building, and teachers continue to work hard to ensure a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. It's great to be back together!

As a staff, we often talk about the concept of optimism over positivity. Optimism recognizes the challenge while focusing on the potential solution. Positivity can sometimes be overly used and seen as ignoring or not acknowledging the challenges. This is why we continue to strive for optimism! We continue to acknowledge the challenges and remain determined to not be defined by them. We continue to remain solution focused, empathetic, and responsive to student needs. With this, I ask that parents who have questions or concerns regarding classroom expectations, communication, and/or instruction should reach out directly to the teacher themselves. Reaching out directly to the source helps acknowledge the challenge, build collaborative home-school relationships, and limits potential misunderstandings.

PARTIES, TREATS & LUNCH VISITORS

Please see the below flyer regarding treats for classroom parties and birthdays. All treats brought in must follow our wellness policy guidelines. No homemade or unpacked treats will be allowed in the classrooms.

The School District's Nutrition Department is a great resource for ordering treats that meet the wellness policies. If you are interested in ordering items through the District's Nutrition Department, you may contact Becky West at bwest@solon.k12.ia.us and she would be happy to help!

Lastly, in order to continue the spacing in the lunchrooms, we will not be allowing lunch visitors again this school year. This will help us maintain some social distancing and lower numbers in the lunchrooms while students eat. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

CONNECTIONS W/ GUIDANCE & MS. A

We are fortunate to have such a strong focus on SEL through our guidance lessons during specials each day, as well as the more prioritized master schedule to ensure Ms. A has more of an opportunity to provide SEL support through whole group instruction, as well as small group and one-on-one supports for students. PARENT DROP-OFF PROCEDURES: UPDATE

Thank you to our families who drop students off in the morning for adjusting to the new drop off lanes and procedures. The first few days have gone so well and we thank you for following the line expectations, using the parking spaces when walking your child(ren) in, and for stopping at the crosswalks when needed. We appreciate your cooperation as it helps with traffic flow and increased student safety!

MITIGATION UPDATE

As previously shared, the district will continue to follow Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) guidance. The IDPH most recent guidance on COVID19 and other illnesses can be found in this link. It is important to monitor your child for symptoms and keep your child home if symptoms are evident as directed by public health.

Iowa law prevents mandating mask use, but the district welcomes their use by those choosing to wear them. We encourage everyone to consult with your personal family physician or health care provider with decisions related to COVID19 and other childhood illnesses.

The following precautions continue in the building:

Updated air filters (changed quarterly)
Cafeteria and small gym used for additional seating and more space between students while eating (no assigned seating)
Frequent sanitizing/cleaning of high traffic areas and classrooms
Classroom notifications will be sent for any classroom exposed to a positive COVID case

OCTOBER HEARING SCREENING

GWAEA hearing vans will be here on Friday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 27.

GWAEA hearing vans will plan to see preschool students on an IEP, all of Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd, as well as students with previously known hearing losses in grade 3, as well as any new 3rd graders without a previously documented hearing screening.
