Featuring Lincoln Elementary School
Lincoln Lions
#LionsOfLegacy
Lincoln Elementary School's staff and students have been working on some exciting initiatives this year!
They are great example of how to move the WCS mission forward. They work to support the four Strategic Plan Pillars: Empathy, Experience, Adaptability, and Inclusivity.

Disability Awareness Activities
When we know better, we understand that in the midst of differences, there are really even more ways that we are all very much alike.
Disability Awareness Day
The week of March 20th, Lincoln Elementary embarked on what we hope is a new annual event; Disability Awareness Week.
So often, we are led by fear and uncertainty or even stereotypes when it comes to disabilities. Lincoln wanted to make sure that students were informed about the disabilities that are present among the Lion family and see how those living with these conditions are everyday heroes.
Students took part in dress up days to honor the following disabilities that are present in the Lincoln staff and student population; physical impairment, ADHD, Type 1 Diabetes, Dyslexia, Vision and Hearing Impairment and Autism.
Lessons were put together by the special ed team and given to teachers to incorporate during the week on various days of highlighted disabilities. On Thursday and Friday, several volunteers came in to help run stations that simulated for all students what it is like to live with the various disabilities of focus for the week.
It was certainly a week of celebrating inclusivity and empathy - two important pillars for WCS!

Gintry Slone, Lincoln Parent
"A lot of people don't realize ADHD is a disability and what a kid with it can go through, and not just the kid but their parents, family, friends, and teachers.
Thank you again for all that you do and for making sure every child at Lincoln feels like they belong, are listened to and loved.”
Have you Heard about The Giving Room?
This was a passion project of sixth grader, Grayson Ralstin (and his mom), after having an evening conversation about a student Grayson had observed that was in need of clothing and his heart hurt for the student.
Currently, the room is open every Friday for “shopping” with Mrs. Ralstin but staff are able to bring students in through the week at anytime to shop personally.

“Every student should be able to have clothes that make them feel good about themselves.”
Brittany and Grayson Ralstin sharing with staff about the procedures for the use of the newly set up “Giving Room.”
NCCAA Service Project
Grace College Partnership
We are so thankful for the partnership between Grace College & WCS! Thanks to Grace College, WCS gets to participate in a service project that takes place in conjunction with the NCCAA tournament.
This year, Lincoln hosted the Lady Eagles from Asbury University. The players spent time volunteering in classrooms and gym and then joined the Lincoln boys and girls basketball team for a luncheon. At this luncheon, our championship boys team served the Asbury and Lincoln players lunch as a full circle service project. The Lincoln Lady basketball team submitted questions they wanted to hear from the Asbury players about. This luncheon was a great way to celebrate tournament play and truly enriching the lives of others.
“What do you look for in a college athlete?”
The Asbury coach mentioned that he looks equally at athletic talent and mental fortitude.
When asked what mental fortitude is, sixth grader Lorelei Powers responded with, “It is having a mental toughness and recognizing that sometimes you don’t want to do things but you have to stick to it and do them anyway.”
This response brought a round of applause from the whole Asbury team!
Thank you, Grace College and Asbury University!
Leadership Academy Work
Leader in Me
This spring semester, Lincoln Elementary has been working in partnership with Harrison Elementary in the pursuit of becoming a Leadership Academy.
Lincoln has established a task force of certified and classified staff and parents that have been taking part in a book study on The Leader In Me leadership framework as well as attending various site visits of already established Leader in Me schools.
The work has been inspiring and all on the task force agree that this model of focus school is a perfect fit for our lion students.
Leader In Me equips them to take on leadership responsibilities within their classroom and throughout the school as well as teaches them the skills needed to master the eight healthy habits of leadership.
Lincoln hopes to launch this work in the fall of the 23-24 school year, walking into the three year formal implementation process.
Katie Miller, Lincoln Parent
“These habits are something that we see as a strong need in the workforce today. More and more adults are coming without these skills.
If we can equip our students to master these in their early elementary years, we are making a big impact on students and our community.”
Leader In Me Habits Include:
Sharpen the Saw and Find your Voice
Synergeize
Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood
Think Win-Win
Put First Things First
Begin with the End in Mind
Be Proactive
Mastering these habits is a pursuit that helps students for the rest of their lives and helps them to understand what it means to be a leader of themselves and a leader that inspires others. We cannot lead others when we don’t have leadership of ourselves first.
Lions of Legacy
Lion Bucks
Lincoln Lions have some pretty neat opportunities to cash in their Lion Bucks. Keep up the great work students and continue to demonstrating how to be "Lions of Legacy!"
