PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
April vacation is here already!! I can't believe how quickly the year is moving along. The warm weather has given all of us a touch of spring fever. Personally, I hope it's here to stay.
We're having an exciting week before our vacation. The annual 4th grade versus 5th grade volleyball game took place today. We had a gym full of friends from first, second, and third grades cheering on the teams. It was quite a raucous event.
Tomorrow, the Spark Dance group will do a presentation on disabilities for our third, fourth, and fifth graders. Mrs. McCartney, our social worker/guidance counselor, has made all the arrangements and is working with Michaela Knox on this endeavor. This was a very well-received program at Fisher Mitchell School and we are looking forward to taking part in this activity.
We have many exciting events that are coming up. Our annual author's visit will take place on April 28th. Jennifer Jacobson is this year's special guest. She will do a whole school presentation and then hold sessions with each grade level. We are grateful for the Onion Foundation Grant covering the cost of Ms. Jacobson's visit.
In early May, Chewonki will be doing presentations for students. We're excited that we'll be able to hold these in our new outdoor pavilion. Thank you to the Phippsburg Land Trust for their sponsorship of this activity.
I hope you all have a safe and relaxing spring break.
STEM CITY FEEDBACK
STEM City 2023 excited students from all our schools in RSU1! We'd love your feedback before thinking about a future STEM City event. Please take a few moments to share your ideas on this anonymous survey.
NOTE FROM THE NURSE
Please remind students to consume only food that they bring from home or receive as a part of a school meal. Several students have food allergies that could be negatively impacted by eating certain items if they were shared.
GREAT START ACTIVITIES
Due to the cancellation of Late Start Wednesdays beginning on May 3rd, the last Great Start Activity was this week.
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
Mark your calendar! The last day of school for K-12 is Thursday, June 22nd. It will be a half day for students-dismissed at noon-and a full day for staff.
Pre-K's last day is now June 15th.
NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY
Another school year is coming to an end, and the library is gathering all overdue materials that have been signed out by students and staff. Parents can help by assisting their children in locating and returning library books to school each week. Thank you for your help and support.
HANNAFORD HELPS SCHOOLS
If you are a Hannaford shopper, participating in Hannaford Helps Schools, please be sure to turn in your Hannaford School Dollars by May 27th. If you send them in to PES by May 19th, Mrs. Doran will drop them at the Topsham Hannaford for you. Since the program's inception, Hannaford has raised over $17 million for local schools. They are excited to share that they are moving to online redemption this year, making it even easier for students' families to participate! But don't worry; they are not doing away with paper redemption. If you have any questions about the program, call customer service at: (603) 380-9353 from 8AM-5PM M-F, or email hannafordhelpsschools@hannaford.com.
