I wanted to say how proud I am of Hawthorne’s students, staff, and families. February is typically a tough month as everyone is dealing with bad weather, illness, cabin fever, and what seems to be extremely full days! While our attendance has taken a hit, HawkNation has done a great job with effort and working hard to get a little better every day. So please accept this big thanks for being you!

Please check your child's bookbag in the mornings before they come to school. We have been seeing an increase of inappropriate items brought to school lately. Toys are not allowed at school. Also, our lost and found rack is overflowing with jackets, coats, sweaters, hats and gloves. Remind your student(s) to check the rack in the cafeteria if you are missing these items.

Just a reminder- when changing your afternoon transportation arrangements, you must call the office before 1 pm. We cannot guarantee that the message will get through if you call late in the day. A better solution is to write the teacher a note in the morning when they come to school.

Also, the teachers would love donations of the following: baby wipes, disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer. We have been hit hard with various illnesses this winter and are trying our best to manage germs within the classrooms.

Now in its 29th year, the I Love to Read Challenge is designed to encourage a love of reading in 3rd graders, at a time when students are developmentally adapting from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” The bracket-style elimination challenge encourages safe competition among classrooms with a focus on both personal effort and collaborative achievement. We are proud to announce that Mrs. Buchanan's 3rd grade classroom is in 4th place in this competition!
