Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,

Happy Friday! Please be reminded that there will be no school on Monday, October 10, 2022, in observance of the holiday.

Please remember to donate brand new pairs of socks for "Socktober", our school-wide community service activity. Our goal is to collect 1,000 brand new pairs of socks by October 28, 2022.

Donate to our Socktober Efforts!

Hyde-Addison is doing a schoolwide community service project with the aim of providing 1,000 pairs of brand new socks (adults or children) to individuals in need this winter. Bring them to school beginning October 3 and help us meet our goal by October 28! You just never know what celebration might be in store if we reach 1,000...

Building Access Update

The Hyde-Addison team is pleased to be able to provide a DCPS update with families regarding access to the school building. Beginning Monday, October 3, DC Public Schools will revert to its pre-pandemic School Visitor Policy. Starting on that date, parents and caregivers may visit school spaces as long as they adhere to the school security procedures outlined in the School Visitor Policy. DCPS continues to prioritize a school arrival process where children will be appropriately supervised and safely escorted to the classroom by a school staff member. There will be no change to the Hyde-Addison arrival procedures or times, however families that wish to enter school with their child in the mornings will be required to adhere to the following:

8:10am K-5 Breakfast in Cafeteria- Families who wish to join their student in the cafeteria for breakfast must come through the main entrance, sign in, show identification, and get a visitor pass.
8:20am Pre K Breakfast in Classrooms- Families who wish to join their student in their classroom for breakfast must come through the main entrance, sign in, show identification, and get a visitor pass.
8:30am All Families Exit- Families should say goodbye to the students, go to the security desk to sign out, and leave through the school’s main entrance.
8:35am Instruction Begins- All families have exited the building.

Any person found violating the policies may be denied future access to the building.

We recognize that providing parents and caregivers with access to the school environment enables students to share their school experience and builds bridges between home and school, thus we will also have opportunities for families to visit our classrooms at regular intervals throughout the year. This includes inviting parents indoors for schoolwide meeting, when the weather requires us to move indoors, as well as the option to have an in-person conference at the upcoming Parent Teacher Conference day on October 6, 2022. Additional family engagement opportunities will be communicated throughout the school year.

Student Mental Health Services: Parent/Family Referrals

School mental health services and supports are an effective means of addressing the mental health needs of children and improving the learning environment. Click here if you would like to refer a student for mental health or counseling support provided by Ms. Stovall. Referrals will be processed by the Mental Health Team and staff will receive communication and updates regarding services.

2022 DCPS Standing Ovation Award

Hyde-Addison ES has received a coveted 2022 DCPS Standing Ovation Award for “Building the Bridges for Students and Families” as presented by the DC ED Fund. Bridges are essentially about granting access and creating opportunities for those who might not otherwise have them. At Hyde-Addison ES, our “High 5” Priorities are grounded in building bridges. Our equity and antiracism work has been at the forefront of our efforts. We are a diverse school community with many families from around the world and from every Ward in the District. With access and exposure to superb instructional practices and whole child supports, we have continued to narrow opportunity gaps for students and prove that all children can grow and achieve. This has been a team effort and we thank you all. Well done, Hyde-Addison Elementary School Community. Congratulations!

Early Dismissal

Parents/Guardians must be at the main entrance of the school building before 2:55pm to pick up students for early dismissal.

PLEASE do NOT park in the kiss and ride.

There is typically parking available on the side streets and on P street. But, families may not park in the Kiss and Ride and legal parking on O St. is certainly limited.

Kids Ride Free Cards- Sign Up

If you would like a Kids Ride Free Card for your student, please fill out this short form. They will be sent home in students' backpacks on Mondays.

Family Library Mornings

We are excited to open the library up to families so that you can pick out book with your child on their class's assigned day. Please see below for the date and time!

School Meals- Payments and Details

All students have access to free breakfast and do not need to sign up or register. Information about lunches is more nuanced, based on family circumstance, and can be found here, including how to add funds to your student's account. PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS

FALL FEST IS BACK!

The Hyde-Addison PTA would like to bring back fall fest! This is purely a community-building event and not a fundraiser. If you would like to volunteer discounted or free services like food, baked goods, photography, and/or working the event, please e-mail John Benison at johnpatrickdc@gmail.com.

Mr. Benison will host a meeting next week to plan the event with volunteers. Please email Mr. Benison directly as this is time sensitive.

John is looking for anyone who can contribute time to help run the event and people who can donate in kind for things such as: A photographer A face painter A balloon artist (kids balloons or balloon arch) Bakers to contribute for a bake sale or cake walk Food vendors Any other Fall themed activities (pumpkin painting, etc) A costumed character to greet children (superhero, etc) If any of these describe you, spark another idea or you would like to sponsor one of these activities please contact John directly! Date and time are still TBD as the PTA is still in planning stages and welcome your input!

Hopefully, we can make another great fall event happen at Hyde-Addison!
