Preparing for next week:
Next week we will focus on note-taking strategies and be looking into the lessons you had due the week of the 20th and upcoming lessons for ELA.
Many of your assignments began on Monday the 20th. Please make sure that you are following the assignments listed on your daily plan. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Literature assignments on the Daily Plan
On your Daily Plan for 8/31/18 (once you complete unit 1 in Literature) it will list your Literature assignment as the Novel Choice unit. please DO NOT do this unit. We will do our Novel Units later in the year. For literature, we will continue to work through Unit 1 and then start unit 2 on September 10th. If you have any questions please let me know.

Teacher Graded Assignment:
Literature Q1 TGA1 (quarter 1 teacher graded assignment number 1) will be due on 8/24/18. This can be found in USA Test Prep. Please do not worry that your grade does not update automatically as I manually enter your grade from TGAs.
Upcoming TGA: Composition Unit 1 Writing a Memoir Check-in will be assigned in USA Test Prep and due on 8/29/18. Please make sure you are completing the lessons in the book, but also completing the check-in in USA Test Prep when they are assigned.

I’m tall when I’m young and I’m short when I’m old. What am I?
A Candle!
Weekly Riddle:
Each Friday I will send out a Riddle. Please come to class the following week with your answer
In a one-story pink house, there was a pink person, a pink cat, a pink fish, a pink computer, a pink chair, a pink table, a pink telephone, a pink shower– everything was pink! What color were the stairs?
I will share the answer next week in class! Have an amazing weekend!
5th Grade Math with Mrs. Vandever
You will continue to work in Unit 1 Lessons 5-8 next week involving multiplication and division. If you are struggling with either, I have attached a list of multiplication and division resources. I’m looking forward to our class connect sessions on Monday. Be sure you have completed your math readiness assessments in USA Test Prep by Tuesday, August 28th. This will be the first TGA (Teacher Graded Assignment) in the grade book. Remember, this is to be done by yourself. It is okay if there were things you didn’t get right or understand. See you in class.
5th Grade Science with Mr. McIntosh
Looking Back –
Hey, 5th Grade Science Superstars! We had a tremendous start to the new year with our discussion of the Scientific Method and what that means for our problem-solving in the sciences. This week, you jumped into the ways that all living things are organized, and you learned some very challenging information about all of the single-celled organisms that can help (or hurt) us.
Assignments for the week of Aug. 20-24: Unit 12, Lesson 1: Naming and Organizing Life, & Lesson 2: Prokaryotes
Looking Ahead -
You will expand on the first two lessons next week as we talk about protists, fungi, and viruses. We will have the Unit 12 Review and Assessment due at the end of next week, but I will make sure that we cover what that will look like in next week’s Class Connect.
Assignments for the week of Aug. 27-31: Unit 12, Lesson3: Protists and Fungi, & Lesson 4: Viruses
Unit 12 Review and Assessment due on 8/31
Special Note - Besides the reading and lesson activities for next week, please make sure that you are able to sign into Office 365 when you come to next week’s CC. I will email you with information to make sure that you’re able to do so. This will be very helpful as we complete our short surveys at the end of class and also as we tackle bigger projects during the first quarter of the year.
