Our Literacy Week was a HUGE success! Thank you to all who dressed up and shared your love of literacy with our kiddos. We received SO MANY compliments about how well-behaved and attentive our students were during the Vocabulary Parade and our Guest Readers. The VBE VIBE was on full display -- because of Y-O-U! Don't forget today is Read Across the District and we're all stopping to read for 30 minutes from 3:00-3:30.

Ms. Canevari and the PE Department won for their project to obtain heart-rate monitors.

They will be ordering 20 heart rate monitors to use. These will be accessible to our entire student body!!

Ms. Berwick and Ms. Rochon won for their proposal:

We would like 2 Bloxel Builder class packs (5 boxes each) and 2 boxes of Lego Robotics 31313 MINDSTORMS EV3.

We plan to use these for an adaptations lesson with Hoot! and also to create learning games for younger students through out the year.

We still have one $500 Tech grant available... please email me your proposal if interested!

You're VIBE attracts your TRIBE!

As a reminder, our ESOL students will be taking the Access 2.0 assessment from January 29-February 2. This involves 2 whole-group sessions and 1 individual session for each of our 94 students. We are trying to administer all of this within the one week so that there are minimal disruptions to instruction, and we truly appreciate your flexibility and understanding with this!

Here is the summary of the testing schedule:

1/29: 1st grade whole group and 2-5 individual

1/30: 2nd-5th whole group and 1st individual

1/31: 3rd-5th whole group and 1-2 individual

2/1: 1st whole group and K, 2-5 individual

2/2: 2nd whole group and K-1, 3-5 individual

The following people will be administering the assessments, and will therefore be away from their regular schedule: Ms. K, Ms. Pasten, Ms. Singh, Ms. Lamscha, Ms. T. Robinson, and Ms. V. Gonzalez.

Ms. Kalin will be hosting Virtual Reality Field Trips! Please email her what you're currently working on if you are interested in her bringing a field trip to your classroom along with a time that works best (please refrain from 8:40-9:20 as she is problem solving techie concerns at those times.

Periodically, Ms. Emerson might swing in to host... but we are super excited to get our field trips up and running. We can only do up to 2 classes per day (one morning one afternoon) due to the charging.

Based on feedback from the grade chairs, we will be introducing annotation for grades K-5. Moree will be providing a PD on Annotation next week, so please decide as a grade group or department which one you would like to attend. Options: 7:45-8:15 on 1/30 OR 2/1. You do NOT need to attend both.
