Principal Message
Hello Cooper Family and Friends,
I cannot believe the month of May is here and we are in our last full month of school! What an amazing year it has been! I think back to September when I welcomed our students and families back to Cooper. Some were a little nervous and others very excited to start this new school year!
I want to express my sincere gratitude to all our Cooper families for all your kindness and support this year and the past five years while I served as Cooper Principal. I am retiring at the end of June after 32 years in public education! I will treasure the memories that I have made here at Cooper and the Burlington Area School District! I know that I will see many of you around the community! I wish you all the best!
We begin this month celebrating our teachers! May 1-5, is Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to all our Cooper teachers and "home teachers" for doing all you do in the classroom and at home to brighten the lives of our students. Your effort is noticed and appreciated!
During this week our PTO is also sponsoring the Scholastic Book Fair May 3rd-May 5th. Students will have time to visit the book fair during the school day. The book fair will also be open in the evening on May 4th during the spring music concert until 7:30pm.
Speaking of the music concert, our Spring Music Concert for third, fourth and fifth grade is Thursday, May 4th. Mrs. Ivkovich, our music teacher, has planned a wonderful concert showcasing students playing a variety of instruments and singing beautiful songs. Please look for an email with specific information.
Mark your calendars to attend the "POP IN" family event Thursday, May 11th between 4:30-6:30pm. It is a fun, hands-on event when the whole family can be involved! Learning activities will be set up in the classrooms, Music, Art and PhyEd spaces. Students will showcase their work and share their success with their parents/guardians. They are so excited to share this learning with others. Please see more details below.
Let's think about SUMMER!! I would like to encourage you and your child to set summer goals so all this hard work continues into next school year. Set aside time each day for reading, doing some math and some writing. The Burlington Public Library and BASD teachers are partnering to provide several fun and enriching reading and math events at the public library. Please look for information on the public library website and flyers.
If you are looking for some fun and educational ideas, check out our Summer School and Summer Rec offerings! There's a large variety of educational and sporting activities. There is even special pricing if your child attends Summer School and then attends a Summer Rec activity~ check it out!
There are a number of field trips and volunteer events this month and in June. If you would like to chaperone or help at school, you will need to complete a volunteer application form. I look forward to see you~
Thank you again,
Mrs. Jackey Syens
