Forward Testing

About
During the 2015-16 school year, Wisconsin rolled out a new assessment called the Wisconsin Forward Exam. The Exam is designed to gauge how well students are doing in relation to the Wisconsin Academic Standards. These standards outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be college and career ready.
How to prepare
- We ask that you print and complete the parent contact form (link at bottom of S'more)
- A lite lunch and/or snacks
- Water bottle
- A quiet activity - book, card game or gaming device (no sound) - if they finish early and are waiting for you to pick them up.
If your student is bringing a cellphone, it must be turned off and not in eye site.
Arrival Time
8:30 AM
Test Length
The FORWARD test is a self-paced assessment. All students will take the ELA and Math sections of the test with 4th and 8th graders taking additional assessments in Science and Social Studies.
In past years, students in 3, 5, 6, and 7th finished in about 2 to 3 hours. Our 4th and 8th grade students average about 4 hours. This time is including the built-in breaks that are allowed. The Forward is a self-paced test. Some students may need more breaks than others, test faster or slower, so the final time is student dependent.
If your student appears to be taking a longer time testing and would benefit from coming a second day, we will reach out to you to share that information with you on the day of testing and make those arrangements prior to your student leaving for the first day.
During Testing
In an effort to provide a quiet testing environment, adequate space for testers, and reduce the risk of transmitting Covid-19, parents will register student(s) in then wait in the main waiting area, off-site or in their vehicle.
Our staff will contact you using the Parent contact form that you completed when your student has started their last assessment.
Attendance
On the day of testing, teachers are aware students will be out testing. They too will be out testing proctoring the exams throughout the state. Teachers will keep you updated on their schedule.
If for some reason you are unable to attend testing, please reach out as soon as you are aware. Your scheduled site registration staff member will be contacting you. If you have any specific testing questions, contact generaltesting@wivcs.org
