Kinder
Hello Kindergarten families!
It is February and we are working so hard in our reading. We have been working on tapping out words, retelling stories, writing sentences with our sight words, and working on rhyming words. Please keep practicing letter sounds with your child and our Kindergarten sight words. In math, we are diving into addition and subtraction up to ten. Ask your kindergartener to tell you about number bonds and writing equations to match the number bond. We are solving story problems with pictures and number bonds. In Social Studies and Science, we have been exploring geography of the neighborhoods and will be starting the topic, living things in their habitats. Keep wearing those warm coats to school and thank you for all your support this winter.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Hawes
First Grade
Hello First Grade Families,
It has been wonderful seeing all of the students coming back from winter break! We started this quarter with Unit 4 in Math and Reading. Science has been great since our plant unit has connected very well within our unit for Reading.
We will also be celebrating 100th day of school on February 5th and it will be that same week as conferences. We will be having conferences on February 8th and February 9th. Please make sure to check your child’s backpacks as we will be sending important information regarding conferences. Our students are getting better at reading and we are excited to see the progress they will make towards the end of this quarter. Please encourage your children to read at home at least 20 minutes.
First Grade Teachers,
Mrs. Adame, Ms. Huizar, Ms. Hernandez
Second Grade
In Reading, we will be learning about the foundational skill called the final syllable_le. We will learn how to find the main topic of a nonfiction story, as well as a historical fiction story. We will focus mainly on finding supporting details in what we read to find a main topic and write about it! We will also be learning and using adjectives and adverb in a sentence.
In Social Studies, we will be studying some heroes that have made a difference in our lives.
Please continue to read at home and practice math facts for 10-15 minutes every night.
Third Grade
Dear 3rd-Grade Linn Family,
We LOVE our 3rd Graders! We look forward to conference time to share progress on the goals and results of our first KAP Interim and last quarter learning.
Please add the date and time to your calendar if you have been selected to attend a conference. When you come to a conference, your student should attend to be part of the learning discussion. If you have not been invited to attend a conference this time, you may still contact your teacher to have a discussion. We are here for you!
Please make sure that your student is participating in daily physical activity and homework time outside of school hours. Make sure they are back into their homework routine. Reading and practicing math facts is a MUST! Make sure they are stretching, exercising, completing chores, and helping siblings/friends. Having additional indoor time in the winter is great for being creative! For example, your student could create something from an empty cereal box, or draw a picture, or make a craft for someone to cheer them up.
Healthy and happy hearts are a reminder of Valentine’s Day. In 3rd-Grade we will have a 20-minute activity to celebrate friendship that includes students exchanging cards and eating a healthy snack. Students will get a list of class names if they would like to participate and do their own Valentine's cards.
Please let us know what questions you have and make sure to keep in contact with us on Talking Points.
Have a wonderful February!
The 3rd-Grade Team-
Mrs. Hernandez
Mrs. Salmans
Mrs. Laskowsky
Fourth Grade
Hello 4th Grade!
In ELA students have been loving reading about and learning about natural disasters. So far, we have covered earthquakes and will be moving to volcanoes in the next module. It has been fun seeing the students be so engaged during this unit. Be sure to ask them all about it.
In Math we are currently in Module 6 focusing on decimals and fractions equivalents. One way to help at home during this module is to practice with them by counting money. Also be sure to continue practicing multiplication facts.
We are excited to see our students continue making progress on their reading fluency. To help your student grow please be sure to have your student read aloud to you or anyone in your family for at least 20 minutes every day.
As always, please don't hesitate to contact us through TalkingPoints if you have any questions.

Fifth Grade
5th grade has been enjoying the past few weeks since we returned from Winter Break. Our students really enjoyed their visit to the Boot Hill Museum. We were lucky enough to have Boot Hill employees be set up throughout the museum while we were there, to give us in depth information about the exhibits. Some of our 5th grader’s favorite exhibits were the Bison display, where they get to experience what a buffalo stampede would feel like. They also enjoyed seeing the stage coach and the authentic wagon pioneers used to travel with. The branding/Cattle drive exhibit and Native American exhibits were also a hit. The students also got to see how a printing press works. But, of all the exhibits, learning about the founders and important historical figures of our town, such as Wyatt Earp, Chalkley Beeson, Bat Masterson, and Doc Holiday, was the most exciting part. If you have a free Saturday, take your student back and let them be your tour guide. The Boot Hill Museum is free to all Ford County residents. We are also enjoying learning about Space and look forward to our field trip to the Hutchinson Cosmosphere at the end of February.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your student, please use Talking Points to communicate with the Teacher. We are also available by calling the school.

PTO Meeting Notes - January 25, 2024
Present Members:
Karina Garcia- President
Jesus Esparza- Vice President
Sarah Sughroue- Secretary
Agueda Garcia- Treasurer
Corina Castro-4th Grade Rep
Audra Harlan- STUCO Rep
President Karina explained “What is PTO?”
Our PTO Balance is $5,774.89 Amount will change once recorder money and December gloves gift reimbursement is withdrawn. Reviewed Fall events and success of the Halloween Obstacle Course. The Holiday Gift shop made $2,9230.28, PTO’s profit was 20% of that, so we made $594.76. The PTO feels this event was not worth the amount of work that was required to make it happen. For Valentines, PTO will be handing out a Valentine’s Day Pencil to all students with a note of love. Sunday, April 28th will be our Linn PTO Picnic. It will be 2pm-4:30pm. We are wanting to have a rental Jumpy as well as 360 Photo Booth for the picnic. Teacher Appreciation week is May 6th-10th. Lisa’s Charcuterie, Mock-N-Roll Food truck, Staff Room Service, Soul Spring Bus, Sonic Drinks and Parent prepared Potluck were some of the ideas discussed. Finalizing of the Picnic and Teacher Appreciation week plans will be done at February’s meeting.
Mrs. Corina Castro gave a brief overview of what 4th grade is learning right now. In math they are beginning to work on fractions and decimals. In social studies they are learning about the Western Part of the United States. They are also working on opinion writing.
BLT has discussed and decided that every classroom teacher needs to reach out to a parent from their room and ask them to be a class representative for PTO. The hope is, this will get more parents involved in our PTO meetings and create more parent-led activities. Our PTO activities run more smoothly when we have parent volunteers. These events take a lot of planning and time, and the more help we have planning and running them, the better they will be.
Counselor's Corner
Students have been working on self-esteem, and a growth mindset and have future lessons on acceptance (self) and fairness. Teachers and para helpers love the students at Linn and seem to take the motto Every Encounter is Important to heart. I truly feel that your students are loved when they come to school. Classrooms feel like families, and the standard is that problems should be handled as such. There are still coats, if your family has a need. Please let us know how we can help. Our office staff is the best and they will connect you with the right person to help.
It has been wonderful have counseling support from Compass offered free in our schools through a grant. Our social worker Karime Talavera is at Linn ½ days and we work together to provide services for your children. She goes above and beyond in trying to connect your student to services, and it is wonderful to have a Spanish speaker in this position.
We truly love your children at Linn. Thank you for loaning them to us.
