Weekly Update ~ December 17, 2018
Happy Holidays!
On behalf of the entire faculty and staff of Oak Grove, I'd like to wish everyone a "Happy Holidays" as we enter our break. The first half of the year has flown by! We have had a great year at "The Grove" and want to thank you for entrusting us with your children on a daily basis and for all the support you give to our school and students. Enjoy your break, spend quality time with your family and friends, and we look forward to seeing the students when they return on January 7th. Have a GREAT week!

Children’s Book Drive
Clean out those bookshelves and donate any new or gently used children’s books!
The fourth graders will be leading Oak Grove School in a book drive for Bernie’s Book Bank. This project will culminate in a field trip to volunteer at the book bank. The collection will take place from January 7 - January 25. Collection bins will be placed by both offices. Help us reach our goal of collecting 1500 books! K-1st Grade - Social Outing Reminder
K-1 students, don't forget, you are invited to join us on Wednesday, January 16th (early dismissal day) at 1:30 pm at the Libertyville Sports Complex for an afternoon of fun activities including a challenge course, gaga ball, and much more. A snack and water will also be provided. This event is FREE!
To join us, RSVP here & fill out the Sports Complex waiver by Jan. 14 .
If you would like to volunteer to help with the various game stations as well as the snack station and check-in/pick-up, please sign up here.

Important Tech Reminders for Winter Break
Kindergarten through Fourth Grade Parents
The tech department will be updating policies and performing routine maintenance on all student issued iPads over winter break.
All iPads must remain at school for winter break for updates to take place.
Parents and Guardians of Laptop Users
Students are not required to leave their devices at school for winter break. Please be aware though when you are making vacation plans, school issued laptops are not permitted to travel.

The You Be The Chemist Challenge® is an interactive academic contest that encourages students in grades 5-8 to explore chemistry concepts and their real-world applications. The Challenge provides a unique opportunity for a variety of individuals and organizations—including schools, members of the chemical industry, educators, and other community partners—to come together and show their support for STEM education. The club is open to 5th-8th grade students at Oak Grove. All club members must take the qualifying exam. The top 2-3 students will be chosen as the representatives to compete in the local competition in late February or early March.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS
Who: 7th and 8th Grade Boys
When: Tues, Jan 8 and Wed, Jan 9
After School 3:30-5:30 PM
Where: Elementary (Patt) Gym
8 Week Season: Jan 8th - Feb 27th
Cuts: One 7th and 8th grade team will be formed with 12 boys per team. Teams will be announced on the last day of tryouts. Check OGS website calendar for game dates in January/February. No prior experience necessary. Wear athletic clothing and shoes. Kneepads recommended.
*All athletes must have a current physical on file*

Morning Volunteers Needed December 20th

Mother/Son Dance
Saddle up for Oak Grove’s 3rd annual Mother/Son dance! The date for the event will be Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 from 6:30 – 8:30 in the Jr. High gym and is encouraged for K-8th grade boys. The dance will host a DJ, photo booth, entertainment, raffle prizes and snacks. Dance and raffle tickets are available for purchase now via the link below! After the holidays, you’ll get an opportunity to sign up to help make the dance a huge success!
