Student Successes Beyond the Classroom
Congrats to RSEF Winners
Two of our Champe students won as first place category winners, a first in Champe history. The two students have won a right to attend the VA Fair and possibly the International Fair. Tremendous congratulations to Neha Jagasia (Category: Cellular & Molecular Biology & Computational Biology & Bioinformatics; Project Title: Impact of Polyethylenes on Dugesia tigrina Regeneration as a Model for Human Skin Aging and Healing), Harini Ganabady (Category: Earth & Environmental Sciences; Project Title: The Effect of Cholecalciferol on the Calcium Absorption and Resistance to pH Changes in Protothaca staminea), and their teacher Rachel DiSilvio.
Champe Shines in FBLA Regional Competition
JCHS students demonstrated their acumen this past weekend at the Virginia Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Shenandoah Regional Conference. FBLA features a series of competitive events focused on business and information technology skills and knowledge, including objective tests, roleplay scenarios, presentations, and public speaking.
The following Champe students placed in the top three of their respective events: Yuvraj Chauhan, Nikhil Mummnini, Vincent Hang, Eva Joseph, Parth Mittal, Mahir Imran, Dhruv Sarang, Zaina Shareef, Srija Doma, Sahith Yetru, Jayanthi Kalllupalle, and Sana Sawant. Additionally, Yuvraj Chauhan was elected to the position of regional Parliamentarian and will go on to represent the Shenandoah Regional leadership team next year.
Eight of these students qualified to compete in their events at the State Leadership Conference in Reston on April 1-2, where they will compete at a higher level and have the opportunity to network with other students and business leaders throughout the state. Students interested in learning more about FBLA should see Mr. Clark in Room 1513, Ms. Hamilton in Room 1500, or Mr. Stark in Room 1509.
Counseling
April is the month of the Military Child. On average, Military Children attend 6-9 schools between grades K-12. In April, show your support by wearing purple. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military, a combination of Army green, Air Force blue, Coast Guard blue, Marine red, and Navy blue. At John Champe H.S. April 20, 2022 is designated as Purple Up Day! Faculty and students are encouraged to wear purple to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices. Break out your favorite purple gear and show your support!
After a 2-year break, the John Champe Library will once again be holding a used book sale to raise funds for our library programs, including our Makerspace, Reading Promotion Activities, Project Lit Community, Author Visits, and more. If you have any good condition used books that you may be willing to donate, we'd love to have them. We plan to sell books for all ages (appropriate for school). If you have any books to donate, you can send to school with your Champe student, drop off at Champe during school hours, or email Ms. Anderson (sarah.anderson@lcps.org) and Ms. Cote (Catherine.cote@lcps.org) to arrange to get them from you. We will be collecting books between now and mid April! No textbooks or magazines, please.
