Log College Celebrates Black History Month
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.
Log College students will participate in the following activities that celebrate the lives and culture of African Americans past and present.
Students will create a mural displaying the achievements of 5 African Americans who set precedents in their respected fields.
Students will identify famous African Americans and create BioBanners recognizing the positive contributions towards society
Students will analyze several samples of African American Culture and reflect how it impacts society today.
Students will identify contributions of African Americans through announcements and posters hung throughout the school.
American History classes will continue to discuss how slavery has shaped our society.
Additionally:
- Log College continues participating in its annual Sock Roll Challenge, which relies on donations from the school community, such as new socks, crackers and granola bars to wrap and present to less fortunate people in the area. Check out the flyer for more details. (Donations accepted through 1/30)
6th and 7th Grade Programming Night (Course Information and Title I Information)
Mr. Golderer and Mr. Drago will be on hand to explain the course selection process for students heading into 7th and 8th grade in the 2024-25 school year.
While this meeting does not directly affect elementary school families, you are welcome to attend.
Students do not need to attend as this information will be shared with them at school (if you have childcare issues, of course children are welcome).
In addition, we will have a booth set up for Title I information regarding Log College’s English and Math Programs. Families from all grade levels may attend.
Additionally, there is a letter related to students who would like to learn an instrument next year but have no experience attached below:
Model UN
Log College’s first ever Jr. Model UN Club attended their first Cultural Diplomacy Conference at the Penn Museum (University of Pennsylvania) on Thursday, January 18th. This conference was hosted by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. With 10 other middle schools in attendance, the auditorium was filled with future delegates.
The conference began with all students actively listening to our keynote speakers discuss the value of understanding other cultures and how it relates to diplomacy around the world. Students demonstrated the importance of respecting cultures by sharing authentic experiences with everyone in the room.
Once the speakers were finished, Log students had the opportunity to explore cultures around the world through the museum. Students had access to all different regions within the museum to see firsthand accounts of historical artifacts that impact societal culture today.
This experience will help drive their research of appointed countries, Bangladesh and El Salvador. Log delegates of these countries have been selected to sit on committees for Access to Clean Water and Reducing Income Equality. Log students will continue to prepare for our upcoming preparatory conference in March located at Temple University.
STEM and FCS (Cupcake Wars)
Eighth grade Family and Consumer Science students baked cupcakes for the annual “Cupcake Wars.” FCS and STEM team up each year, collaborating to make the ultimate presentation and cupcake for the competition. More to come soon on the Cupcake Wars!
200 Club Winners
Congratulations to our most recent PBIS 200 Club winners! This round’s lucky winners include Amelia R., Lucas K., Hailey T., Lilly G., Gavin T., Sasha V., Rowan L., Azzuria L., Lily C., and Henry F. Keep up the great work, and remember to Live Safely, Own Responsibility, and Give Respect!
Achievement Breakfast
Log College hosted its quarterly Achievement Breakfast on Friday, celebrating our students for their academic achievement, their academic growth, or their community efforts in making Log College a better school. (I'm so sorry, but I don't have any pictures this time).
MTSS
Following a review of our most recent round of Math and Reading diagnostic testing, some students may have changes to their WIN periods or schedule due to Tier III interventions. Please feel free to email Mr. Golderer if you have any questions.
Title I Event (English and Mathematics Program)
On Thursday, 2/1, Log College representatives will present information regarding the English and Math Programs at Log College.
Winter Sports
***Wrestling Log vs. Klinger will be January 31 at 6:00 p.m. at Log***
Dear Log College Families,
Winter Sports season is quickly approaching here at Log College. The Winter sports season runs from November through February and features four sports open to our 7th and 8th-grade students. Log College will be offering Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, and Cheerleading. We are pleased to announce that, for the first time (if enough students try out), we will have Junior Varsity (JV) teams for both boys and girls basketball, providing more students with the opportunity to participate in winter sports. It's important to note that these are not exclusively 7th or 8th-grade teams but are composed of a mix of both grades.
If your child is planning to participate in any of these sports, he/she must have a physical. No student may play or practice until a physical has been received.
PIAA sports physical -
All students must have a completed PIAA physical (dated after June 1, 2023). The physical forms can be downloaded from the link - PIAA Physical Form - Updated 3/22/23 (or you can pick one up from Mr. Corey, our athletic director or any LCMS coaches).
If you have already played a sport in the Fall, you do not need to complete a new physical, but you must re-submit section 7 (Re-certification by parent/guardian) from the PIAA physical form. This page does not require seeing a doctor or medical provider.
If you did not submit a PIAA physical in the Fall, you must complete Sections 1 to 5 within the PIAA sports physical packet. This must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian. Section 6 must be completed by an authorized medical examiner (family doctor, urgent care, minute clinic). You can ignore pages 7-8.
If you cannot find an appointment time with your doctor, you may use another provider or visit a CVS Minute Clinic or visit an Urgent Care center. The Centennial School District has a partnership with Liberty Urgent Care:
If you use any of the following Liberty Urgent Care centers and mention Centennial SD, your physical will only cost $20. (Locations listed below)
