The Viking Spotlight is the part in my weekly newsletter used to highlight and celebrate our students and staff anytime we can! If you would like your child acknowledged for something they have accomplished, whether on campus or off-campus, please feel free to fill out this google form HERE. One week down, 18 more to go! 😊 We hope you had a great week last week, Vikings! Our Week of Welcome activities were made to ease you back into school. It was a week full of opportunities to bond with your Advisory class, as well as other students! We then ended the week with an epic Field Day!! 🤗 We hope you enjoyed the week as much as we enjoyed preparing it for you! It's time to hit the ground running this week, Vikings!! Monday will kick off our first block day. That means you will attend Advisory, then Periods 1, 3, and 5. This will be the same schedule on Wednesdays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will attend Advisory, then Periods 2, 4, and 6. Dismissal is at 3:15pm Monday through Thursdays. Then, we end our week's with Minimum Days on Fridays, so you'll attend all 6 periods and dismissal is at 1:15pm. Be sure to check your schedule so you know where you are going. As always, reach out to adult on campus if you need help!

Lastly, tomorrow will be our first Music Monday of the year!! 🎶 Music Monday is a contest where I play a snippet of a song over the loudspeaker during Advisory and the 3rd caller to correctly name the artist and title of the song earns donuts for their entire Advisory class and points in 5-star! In addition to that, the winning Advisory class gets to pick the playlist for lunch that day, so be ready to provide 5 songs to your Advisory teacher so she can submit them to ASB. Good luck to all Advisory classes! Hmmm...I wonder who will be the first Advisory class to win! 🤔

Please note: The campus gates do not open until 7:30am Monday through Friday. If your child needs to be dropped off before that, we recommend that you sign them up for the before school program that starts as early as 6:45am. See VALOR flyer below for more info.

I wanted to take a minute to discuss schedule changes. During the first 10 days of school, the counselors work really hard to balance classes based on the number of students who actually show up to MVA. Consequently, some schedule changes are required to reflect our enrollment needs, ensure proper placement and to meet teacher contractual class sizes. Some student's schedules must change to complete this balancing process in order to have a safe number of students in each class. Counselors do their best to limit the number of changes to a student's schedule, but we cannot make any guarantees. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to do this important work.

This past Friday during Field Day, we hosted our first ever schoolwide 3-on-3 basketball tournament between Advisory classes!! 🏀 We had 14 eighth grade teams and 11 seventh grade teams competing! It was an awesome event to watch! At the end, only four teams remain and will face each other in the finals this Tuesday! 🤗 I wanted to take a minute to shout out our finalists...

7th Grade Advisory Finalists:

• Ms. Malagon's "Otter Pops"

8th Grade Advisory Finalists:

• Mr. Ceniceros' "Velociraptors"
• Mrs. Portaro's "The Notorious ASB"

The 7th grade teams will face off, while the 8th grade teams will battle one another two. Then, the winning 7th and the winning 8th grade teams will face off to determine the final winner! Lastly, the ultimate finale being the winning Advisory playing the staff on Thursday! 🏆 Be sure to come out and support at lunch!!

Viking Families, be sure to mark your calendars for Thursday, August 10th from 5:15-7:30pm for MVA's Open House 2023, or you may know it as 'Back to School Night'. Open House is an evening where parents/guardians come to campus and meet their child's teacher by attending each of their classes. The beginning of the event starts with a fair in the quad, community resources, food/drinks, and games, followed by a welcome by Principal Scott in the quad area, then attending Periods 1-6 in your child's schedule. This will be our first IN-PERSON Open House since August of 2019 so we are really excited to have parents/guardians come to campus!! We hope you can make it!

Remember ALL students will be able to participate in the free universal program offered in

California. This means that your children will be able to eat ONE (1) free breakfast/snack and ONE (1) lunch every day. Although meals are free, we ask that you still complete this form HERE, if you didn’t already do so during your online registration.

Use the form HERE to submit a photo taken with your school issued iPad of you and your classmates participating in our Spirit Days. The top participating Advisory each semester will earn a Pizza Party from the ASB.

Pictures submitted must CLEARLY show Vikings participating in the ASB Spirit Day ON CAMPUS for consideration (make this obvious). Photos that include inappropriate hand gestures, clothing attire, or suggest inappropriate behavior will not be taken into consideration and will be forwarded to MVA Administration for further review. All photos will be reviewed by the ASB.

Help our school be a safe place for you and your friends! If you have information on incidents surrounding bullying, vandalism, safety concerns, etc., report it anonymously to p3tips.com or use the app!

In an effort to help support our MVA students, we welcome any donations of school supplies and/or money. All funds would go directly to supporting our MVA students in the form of spirit shirts, celebrations, recognition awards, school supplies, and more.
