In November, we celebrate Native American /Alaska Native Heritage Month
The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.
Ashleigh Schiano-Oliver recognized by Honored
As you may have seen in our November community e-newsletter, Armin Jahr kindergarten teacher Ashleigh Schiano Oliver is the Honored Teacher Award recipient for November 2022!
Honored is a nonprofit organization that works to elevate the teaching profession by recognizing teachers across the country who are changing student’s lives.
Ashleigh was nominated for the award by the family of one of her students.
This is Ashleigh's 10th year teaching at Armin Jahr Elementary. She taught first grade for nine years but moved to kindergarten this year. Fun fact: She started her career as an Armin Jahr Orca when she attended the school starting in fourth grade (and she's taught in that same classroom as a teacher too!)!
Ashleigh is a proud 2008 Bremerton High School graduate where Aaron Leavell was her principal. As a student, Ashleigh was involved in several musicals, Link Crew, volleyball, band and was the Drum Major from 2006-2008.
You may recognize the Schiano name - her mom Alesa also works at Armin Jahr as a clerical assistant and her dad Mike works in technology for the District!
