Meadow Hall Staff Newsletter
Week of November 14
Week of November 14-18
Congratulations to Eduardo Garduno Villa on the birth of his son, Kevin! Eduardo will be on paternity leave over the next few months. We will miss him during this time, but hope he's enjoying time with his newborn!
If you see Mr. Simpich, 5th grade long term sub, please say a huge "Thank you!!" and "good-bye". Mr. Simpich's last day is this Thursday as Mr. Fowler returns from paternity leave on November 18th. We hope to see you again, Mr. Simpich! Your dedication to Meadow Hall students is amazing. You really have been a part of our staff.
The afternoon of Friday, November 18th (2-3pm) and the morning of Monday, November 21st (9-10:30am) we will be placing lost and found items on tables in the cafeteria. Please bring your class through the APR to see if they find any of their items on the tables. You may bring them on the way to or from specials or another time that works with your schedule (perhaps as part of a class bathroom break). The afternoon of November 21st we will place the items out for parents to view before donating them.
Reminder:
In lieu of a data chat, quarter 1 data has been placed in teacher's mailboxes for you to reflect on. Review the individualized data for all teachers who teach students and answer the 4 focus questions. Please complete the reflection document by Friday, December 2nd.
Qtr. 1 Data Reflection DocumentCommittees
Please take a look at the committees all MCEA staff signed up for on this document. There is no specific date/time that committees need to meet. Rather, the committee simply needs to complete their event(s) and meet as often as required to make that happen. Please email Desmond and Ilana the requested dates for your committee's event(s) by December 16th. We would like to have things on the calendar and make sure we don't create conflicts with each other or the PTA's events. For events after the school day, we need to reserve through ICB so other organizations don't rent our school at that time. Please appoint one or two people to "lead" the committee, so admin knows who to communicate with regarding the details.
Student Passwords - Grades 3-5
myMCPS Classroom (Canvas) Course
To help alert students to change their password, we have created a new district-wide Canvas Course (Student Password Reset) that the central technology teams will use to target students whose passwords are about to change. During the month that students need to reset their password, students will be enrolled in the course and will be assigned a no-submit assignment to change their password. This will trigger an alert as well as an action item on the student’s to-do list in Canvas. This, in conjunction with the email, will help create an awareness for students using Canvas regularly as part of their school experience.
Chrome PopUp
In addition to the email and myMCPS Classroom course assignment alerts, we have created a chrome popup for students. When students log into their chromebook, this message will pop up in the corner reminding them to reset their password.
Directions for Student Password Changes
As was shared with the students in the email notifications, they simply need to go to https://SPM.mcpsmd.org and log in with their current username and password. That will allow them to reset the password.
Password Report
As a reminder, should any of the students fail to reset their password by the expiration date, the account does not get disabled, but the password is changed automatically and the new password added to the password report. Any of the school staff who have access to that report should be able to see and provide the new password, if needed.
Science Updates Q2
The science department has updated the measurement topics and Naming Conventions document for Q2.
Some things to note:
- All grade levels are tabbed at the bottom of this document and the Q2 Reported Measurement Topics are on the last tab.
- For Quarters 2-4, there will be a minimum of 2, maximum of 3 MTs reported out.
- Lessons highlighted in yellow have an opportunity to collect data for a reported MT.
- Many lessons have opportunities to collect grades for more than one MT.
- They shared that they planned for at least 3 opportunities to engage with/grade each MT per quarter.

Parent Conference Resources
This folder includes:
- Slideshow on planning for effective conferences – I especially like slide 8 for an idea on how to utilize the time/create an agenda
- MHES Conference Form Samples for K-2 and 3-5. This is meant to be a guide for your conversations, not a paper for the parents to take home.
- A simple Sample form for planning
- A tips and resources guide
- 2 door signs so you don’t get interrupted!
