Girls Winter Track
The Girls Track and Field Team began their regular season with an impressive performance at the DVGT Meet of Champions, held at Lehigh University on Friday night. Competing against the top athletes from schools throughout Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, Berks, Lehigh and Philadelphia counties, the Lady Warriors put forth their best effort of the season.
Summer Mellow elevated to one of the best in PA with a couple of extraordinary performances. She won the 60m dash with a PA #13 time of 7.88 seconds, earning her a place at the State Championships held next Sunday at Penn State University. Summer then competed in the Long Jump. Improving her PR by almost a foot, she finished 2nd with a leap of 17' 9.25", currently tied for the 5th best jump in PA. She earned her spot at States in a second event. Going for a 3rd event, the 4x200 relay, she ran with Analiesa Geiling, Soliel Bond-Johnson and Kenslee O'Donnell. Although they ran their best time of the year, they finished just short of qualifying for States with an 8th place performance.
Summer will not be attending States alone, as the 4x800 Relay of Bipasha Mokton, Juliana Trigone, Molly Thomas and Kate Thomas finished 5th with their best performance of season, earning their spot at States.
Although those were the only State Qualifiers, they were not the only noteworthy performances of the meet. Both Analiesa Geiling and Lucy Wang ran PR's in the 60m hurdles, finishing 7th and 10th, respectively, in the event. Bond-Johnson also competed in the Long Jump, finishing 9th in the event. Molly Thomas was 13th in the mile and Kenslee O'Donnell placed 16th in the 400m. The 4x400 relay of Carmela Maro, Jillian McTamney, Kenslee O'Donnell and Kate Thomas just missed their PR for the season, finishing 19th in the event.
Overall, an incredible evening for the Lady Warriors, which also included 4 "All-time" Methacton Top 10 performances (Mellow in both the LJ and 60m, Geiling in the 60m Hurdles, and the 4x800 relay). The season concludes at Penn State University on Sunday.
Upcoming Events:
2/25-2/26 - Indoor State Championships @ State College
Cheerleading
The cheer team is still going strong! Last week was spent prepping for our final competition of the season and cheering both of the basketball teams on in the first round of District playoffs. Two great games in a packed house made for a fun and exciting evening- especially when they both won!
Our standout athlete this week is Rachel Bower! Rachel is incredibly spirited, especially when it comes to supporting the Methacton teams! Her energy is infectious- she makes you want to cheer along with her! On the competition floor, Rachel is a fantastic performer, rocking beautiful jumps and nailing difficult stunts with ease. We are so grateful Rachel decided to give high school cheer a shot this year- she is a great addition to the program!
