Barber Bulletin
Pontiac families,
Thank you for your continued support of PTO! Our Fall Fundraiser was a success, and although totals are not completely finalized, we are excited about the funds raised to support our students. One item request that PTO was able to fund as a result of the recent fundraiser is purchasing Student Leadership Notebooks for every student in our building. These notebooks will include tools and data used by the students to help them achieve academic and personal goals. They will include documents such as students’ personal mission statements, too! Student Leadership Notebooks give students a chance to take ownership of their learning. The students might choose to graph their attendance or track their grades. This tool will help teach students how to plan and reach goals. We are eager to implement these Student Leadership Notebooks this year!
We are so excited for our annual Fall Fest this Friday from 6-7:30pm. We hope you are planning to attend! Admission is only $1 for children. We will have games, face painting bounce houses, a bake sale, and music. Come out and see which teachers won the coin challenge and try to dunk them in our dunk booth! You can also have a chance to throw a pie at some of our favorite teachers! We will have pizza, chips, and drink meals for sale for $5. Cash only, please.
We are asking our generous families to donate individually wrapped baked goods for our bake sale and cakes for our cake walk. Representatives from PTO will be in Friday morning's car line (tomorrow) to collect these items.
Pontiac PTO thanks you for your support and we hope to see you this tomorrow evening from 6 to 730!
Red Ribbon Week
Begin with End in Mind! We know that having strong interpersonal skills are key to our students’ success. As a part of our Red Ribbon Week recognition this year, we will be hosting a Professional Parrot Contest for our 5th grade students!
This competition will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 25th from 8:30-10:00am. We need 10 judges who would like to interact with the leaders of tomorrow! As a judge, you will have the opportunity to be wowed by our Pontiac students. Your job will be to help us choose our first Professional Parrot based on professional attire, the student’s introduction of themselves, their conversation skills and confidence.
Please contact Mrs. Whitney at jwhitney@richland2.org or 699-2700 x81010 if you would like to be a judge. Please no 5th grade parents, but all others welcome. Thanks for your support!

Music Fundraiser
All students should receive a white music fundraiser packet this week. This is our 3rd annual fall music fundraiser and we are really excited about raising money for our music program. With the money we've raised in the first two years, we have been able to purchase over $5,000 worth of instruments including 2 xylophones, 2 metallophones, 1 glockenspiel and an African drum. We are close to being able to purchase a soprano recorder for all of the regular 3rd and 4th grade classes as well as Upper Montessori later this year. In addition to the recorders ($1500), this year's goal is to purchase classroom rhythm instruments for the younger children ($750 - hand drums, tambourines, maracas, triangles, etc) and to purchase a class set of ukeleles ($3300). The deadline for orders is October 31, 2017. In addition to the prizes you can earn from the company, I will again hold a drawing to win one of the 2 large teddy bears that will be on display in the front lobby and bus atrium. For every 2 items sold, your name will be entered in the drawing. Please let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for your support!
