What's Happening ?? !!

Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Staff and Teachers,

5, 4, 3, 2, 1.....Blast Off!!!! Wow, what a start. Kindergarteners came in like pros. Grades 1-4 stepped up into their new grades as role-models and leaders. There were smiles and laughter, learning and fun. It was Great to see old friends while making new ones.

Buckle up, keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, and stay seated as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .......

You are cordially invited to our Hawley Elementary School Open House. Wednesday, 9/4 is K-2 and on Thursday, 9/5, 2019 is Grades 3 and 4.

Open House is an evening planned for adults only, to receive generic overviews of protocols/procedures, expectations, and curriculum. If you feel that there is a need for a more individualized conversation with your child’s teacher, please share that with them so a meeting at a future date can be arranged.

Our program will begin promptly at 6:30 PM in the gym with a Principal’s Presentation followed by Classroom Presentations from 7:00-8:00 PM. Please note: the Principal’s Presentation is the same both evenings so those attending both nights can plan accordingly.

Please utilize Caraluzzi’s parking lot for this event. We are looking forward to seeing you and strengthening the home-school connection that defines Hawley.

Next week, 9/3-9/6, we will be conducting all of the safety drills that we do. I will explain every drill to the students and none of them, this week, are a surprise. In the Brown Bag that went home the first day, was a letter explaining all of our drills. If you need another copy, please click HERE.

For some of these drills we will close our front gate, for some we will not answer our phones, and for some, we will not be letting anyone in or out of the building. The drills are short, but your support and understanding is appreciated.

The library is a wonderful place to help out and Volunteer. If you have some time and are interested in being a Library Volunteer, please click HERE for more information.

To be able to Volunteer in any way, including Chaperoning a Field Trip, you MUST fill out a Volunteer Waiver. This form is filled out YEARLY. You can get one by clicking HERE.

• Open House: K-2 is Wednesday and Grades 3-4 is Thursday (see above for details)
• Thank you for your patience and support the first few days of school. Normal beginning of the year glitches were ironed out quickly and the week went quite smoothly.
• Julie Schwartz is the new person in the office with Mrs. Grimaldi. Mrs. Petrovich is now at the middle school. Mrs. Schwartz can be reached using the school phone number or her email (schwartzj@newton.k12.ct.us)

Thank you so much for the amazing lunch that the PTA and you Parents provided us as a welcome back. It was delicious and much appreciated!!!!
