PHS Media Center

This is the periodic media center newsletter of the Plainfield High School. It contains information that parents and students may find helpful and is the primary means of communication about what is happening in the media center.

School Library Month is the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) celebration of school librarians and their programs. Every April school librarians are encouraged to host activities to help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school library programs play in transforming learning. The 2018 theme is Making Connections at Your School Library and the official hashtag is #AASLslm.

Search the media center online library catalog to access SAT/ACT/AP ebooks. Also, check out INSPIRE's Teaching and Education Reference Center (see below).

Students have access to Testing & Education Reference Center. Students can find the website through INSPIRE (Indiana State Library database) or from the Plainfield High School Media Center website under Research Databases. The Testing & Education Reference Center includes the following:

• AP practice tests and ebooks
• SAT/ACT practice tests and ebooks
• Career information
• Basic Skills questions

Staff and students can access the library catalog and ebooks through the PHS library catalog.

Computer/Laptop E-reading Instructions:

1. Go to the Plainfield High School Website and click on Media Center - Library Catalog/eBooks or use the url address - https://pcsc.follettdestiny.com/
2. Click on Plainfield High School.
3. Login with your username and password (same login as tablet).
4. Search for the book you would like to read
5. To check out an ebook, click on the title and then choose "open."
6. Click on "Book" to Check Out Title.

Books are returned automatically after 3 weeks.

Follett’s Destiny Discover app allows you to browse, search and access our school’s library resources with ease. Search our library’s Destiny catalog or Follett eBook and audiobook collection in an easy to use environment.

• Supports both online and offline reading of eBooks and audiobooks

Login Instructions:

• Enter Plainfield High School as your school - make sure it is the Indiana one!
• Login with your username (same login as tablet) and your password (student ID #).

We have a quiet area in the library. This area is located in the far back of the library. This provides a safe space for students to de-stress when they need a break for their mental health and to provide a quiet place for students to study or read. We have tables, comfortable chairs and plenty of natural lighting for this area.

There are four new makerspaces to the media center. These new makerspaces include:

1. Google Cardboard - virtual reality that includes travel locations, colleges, rollercoasters and more (also located in guidance for virtual college trips)
2. Sphero - computer coding with a robot
3. LittleBits - robotics
4. SnapCircuits - robotics

Students can use these makerspaces before school, after school, during lunch and during class time if sent with a pass from a teacher.

*Other makerspaces include: coloring, legos, chess/checkers, 3D puzzle, creation, blackout poetry and dry erase station.

1. Working with teachers on co-teaching/individualized instruction of students in the media center learning environment.
2. Maintain an inviting learning environment that promotes individual learning with 1:1 technology.
