A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families and Supporters,
School communities across the globe are recognizing World Bullying Prevention Month this October. RES joins in this prevention, and we seek to keep the conversation going every day even after October has come and gone. We are always grateful for the support and cooperation from our RES families, because celebrating the good and building a culture of acceptance and kindness is a team effort!
Tomorrow, we will bring the whole school community together for P.A.L time (Problem Solving, Appreciation & Leadership) with Mrs. Pitts to address Bullying Prevention and empower our students to engage in change. During this school conversation, we will define bullying behavior and identify the various roles students and staff can take if they witness bullying. We will focus on upstanders in our effort to empower our community to speak up and support one another.
At RES, we take our role as educators and supporters of every student very seriously. We care deeply about the opportunities we have to help our students grow to their full potential. The administrators and school board that lead our district in excellence also take this seriously. Our school board approves and reviews (annually) our Student Safety & Violence Protection policy. Within this policy, the expectation is set for school leaders and educators to create educational opportunities that inspire bullying prevention. We are also required to provide tools for students, family and staff to report bullying behavior and seek support. Please use our STAND UP! SPEAK UP! form to report any incidence of bullying that you may witness. Every incident will be investigated following the guidelines set forth in our Student Safety & Violence Prevention policy.
We look forward to a very informative and engaging conversation with the students and staff on Friday. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Michelle Pitts, RES Principal or Lori Arsenault, RES School Counselor.
Thank you for your support!
Warmly,
Michelle

Halloween
1. Parade and Assembly: We would love to invite families to an 8:30 AM parade and short assembly following. Students in grades K-4 will be parading around the school. These are the two events that all family members will be invited to attend during the day.
2. Parties: When planning, keep in mind the following recommendations from the Wellness Committee for all parties:
• one homemade treat avoiding artificial dyes and/or high fructose corn syrup
• one or two healthy snacks (a great way to get creative with colorful fruits and vegetables)
• one moving activity (relay race, tossing, balancing, wrapping friends in toilet paper)
• one artistic craft as an option
• keep in mind RES efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle
3. Costumes: Students may wear costumes, but weapons (even toys) are not allowed. Gruesome costumes depicting blood are also not allowed.
We do ask that room parents/guardians email the teacher and Lori Flint all food choices a week ahead so there are no surprises and Mrs. Flint can process whether these are safe for all students in a particular class. Please email her if you have questions! lfint@sau50.org
