Updates for Second Semester
Glenbard West Community -
Happy New Year and welcome to the second semester! Hopefully our students and families were able to relax and spend quality time together over the past two weeks. Here at West, we are happy with the overall results of the first semester, especially considering our journey over the past nearly two years. Generally speaking, our students worked hard and were able to finish strong at the end of the first semester. I wanted to be sure and send out a few reminders and announcements as we begin the new year and second semester.
COVID Mitigations and Communication
As we all know, the Omnicron variant has brought additional COVID infections throughout our communities. While the CDC and IDPH have altered their required isolation period from ten days to five days, as of right now, school guidance has not changed. We encourage families to continue to be diligent with safety precautions and testing. It is important to stay home if you are symptomatic and to get tested before returning to stop the spread of COVID-19. Also note that we will be re-emphasizing the proper wearing of masks throughout our building. Students are expected to bring their own masks and wear them properly while in the building.
Building-wide Expectations
While students at West have been doing a great job overall, we have noticed that some are taking a more relaxed approach to being on time and wandering through the halls during unauthorized times. We would like to remind all students that they should be in class when the final bell rings. Also, during lunch periods, the only time to transition to the library or resource will be in the middle of the period when the midpoint tone sounds.
Freshman Students
This is a reminder to freshmen that they are to remain on campus throughout the duration of the school day. Freshmen are not to leave campus during lunch periods or anytime. Ninth-graders can only leave campus if their parents have called the attendance line they have received a pass from attendance.
Student Success
Students did an amazing job of Finishing Strong at the end of last semester and we are hoping to do even better this semester. We encourage students to work hard, stay engaged and be sure to get help whenever they might struggle. Please note the school-wide supports we have in place HERE.
So much of our success relies on the support that we get from families throughout our communities. Thanks for all of your hard work and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Go West!
