Monday, October 3 will be a distance Learning Day for Grades K, 1, 2, & 3 ONLY.

Grades Pre-K, 4 & 5 DO ATTEND School as usual.

Doctor, dentist or nurse practitioner's written excuses are always encouraged

Elementary School students may not miss more than twelve (12) days per year in order to be eligible for promotion. Parent notes are counted in the 12 days, Doctor excuses are not. .

A doctor, dentist or nurse practitioner written statement of student’s incapacity to attend school shall be required for those absences for three (3) or more consecutive days due to illness, contagious illness in a family, hospitalization, or accidents.

Did you Know that students may purchase extra items or seconds in the cafeteria?

Yes They Can!!!

Each student has a lunch account in the cafeteria computer. Students can purchase extra items at the prices listing below in 2 ways:

1) Cafeteria account - Each student has a cafeteria account.

The students can put money in their accounts through our online payment system, My School Bucks, which is recommended .

Follow these steps to get to My School Bucks and set up an account:

go to vpsb.net

click the menu at the top right

scroll down to Child Nutrition Program and click on the circle with the + sign in it.

click on Online Meal Payments and it should bring you to the My School Bucks page where you can make an account.

2) Cash payment- You may send money for their account by sending a check (made payable to JOES cafeteria) or cash. When the student requests the extras the cost will be deducted from their account. Send money in an envelope with your students full name and labeled Cafeteria Money.

Nothing can be charged.

If the student does not have the money in their account OR does not have the money to pay for it the student will not be allowed to get the extra.

4-H Announcements and Newsletter

• October 2-8 is National 4-H Week

• Tuesday, Oct 4 - 4-H will be selling pickles for $1 at recess

• Wednesday, Oct 5 - 4-H will be selling suckers 2 for $1.00 at recess

• Thursday, Oct 6 - All Students can wear a green shirt with school bottoms to celebrate 4-H Week for $1

The Gueydan Fire Truck will visit JOES on Thursday, October 13.

Help JOES Celebrate National Bus Safety Week by:

- reviewing bus safety rules with your student.

- thank a school bus driver for all they do to get our kids to and from school safely each day.

-Remember the driving rules when you are on the road and get to a bus.

Monday, October 24, 2022 will be Parent/Teacher Conferences for ALL Grade Levels. Teachers will be reaching out to parents to schedule times.

To show support for our GHS Bears it was decided by the staff of JOES to allow students to dress with the theme of the GHS Dress Days the Week of Homecoming all days except

Monday, 10/31 - it is a scheduled JOES PBIS Halloween Shirts Day for Bee Bucks so we will not dress in accordance with the GHS Theme.

Tuesday, 11/1 - Lights, Camera, Action - Movie Day dress as your favorite character.

Wednesday, 11/2 - Scrabble Day - dress up OR wear something that starts with your initial

Thursday , 11/3- Pay Day - Future Career Dress as what you want to be when you grow up.

The Mendoza Car Raffle is a wonderful opportunity for Jesse Owens to raise money. Each year this is by far our biggest fundraiser. Last Year JOES sold 900 tickets.

This year there are some fantastic prizes - besides the Ford Bronko. We are looking to surpass last years 900 with a GOAL of 920. If every student sold at least 5 tickets we could easily reach that goal. Every little bit helps so Thank you all for working so hard to help support JOES.

All Fundraisers help provide funds for instructional materials, operating expenses, motivational incentives for students and staff, and other expenses that are not funded through other sources.

Jean Days: Students may wear blue jeans (NO SHORTS) for $1 on Fridays with a JOES Spirit Shirt or uniform shirt. JOES spirit shirts can be worn every Friday for free with uniform bottoms. (Only the jeans cost $1- $35 for the year)

Tech Tuesday T-Shirts: Students may wear any T-shirt (appropriate according to the uniform policy) for $1with uniform bottoms . All funds raised for Tech Tuesday go to the JOES Technology fund. You can send 1 payment of $34 for the year.

Concession Sales: Students may purchase individually wrapped snacks during recess. All snacks are $1.00. Please make certain that you send snack money with your child in the morning. We will not collect snack money at the office during the day to get to students. We cannot interrupt class time or be responsible for monies lost or misplaced.

Please continue to help Jesse Owens Elementary raise funds at no extra expense to you. Ask your family and friends to do the same. Your trash can be our treasure!!!

Box Tops: No more clipping. No more sending Box Tops to school. All you need is your phone. Download the ALL-NEW Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, then simply scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit your school's Box Tops earnings online.

Forward your email receipt to receipts@boxtops4education.com using the same email that's associated with your BTFE account.

Community Coffee Labels: Cut Community Coffee Products UPC labels. Proceeds help fund the AR and Library programs.

Coca-Cola Products: You can scan or enter Coca Cola product codes directly to the Coca-Cola app. Or search coca cola give to schools for donation to Jesse Owens Elementary or send the codes in to JOES. Proceeds help fund instructional materials, operating expenses, motivational incentives for staff and students and other expenditures that are not funded through other sources.

Scan codes in caps and in the boxes of Coca Cola products to donate to Jesse Owens Elementary. If you would prefer to save the caps and bring them to us we will scan them in.
