Career & Technical Student Organization Success: Although concerns about health and safety forced Delaware's career students to compete virtually, we experienced the same level of success! Results for HOSA and EdRising have been communicated. Please see the graphic below recognizing our students that placed in competitions. We are still awaiting results for the SkillsUSA competitions.

Summer Home Visit Reminder: You should have received a letter from our District about Freshman Welcome Visits that will be scheduled with you and your child at St. Georges! This will provide your family an opportunity to meet with a staff member one-on-one, socially distanced and following all COVID safety guidelines, and learn about St. Georges while on campus. You should be receiving a phone call or email from a staff member over the next couple of weeks to schedule your school visit. Please accept the phone call or return the call if a message is left. Visits can be scheduled now through mid-June and will be held weekday afternoons between 3:15 and 6:00 PM. Visits will last approximately 45 minutes and should include both you and your child. When you arrive at the school lobby, you will be greeted by your staff member and complete a brief COVID screening. You will meet in a designated location with your team member- you will not be meeting with other new families. Your time with the team member is just for you. We look forward to meeting with you soon to start a relationship that will carry through the next four years and beyond.

Spring Sports Update
What a difference a year makes! It is great that our kids are back on the fields, tracks, and courts doing what they love to do...play and compete! We are in the second half of the season and we have a lot to celebrate in all of our athletics programs.
Softball has had a tough schedule this year but this young team has battled along the way. The Lady Hawks have posted big wins over conference opponents Delcastle, Newark, and Mount Pleasant with tough losses to Concord and William Penn. They look to compete fiercely in their remaining schedule with big games against Middletown, Hodgson, and Appo and plan on honoring their seniors on their May 8th game against Smyrna.
SG Soccer had an exciting win over Woodbridge last week with a score of 4-0. Senior Courtney Williams led our attack scoring two goals. Bella Elwood and Faith Riley also contributed one goal each, with assists by Arianna Perez-Locklear, Kyla Reed, and Faith Riley. Defenders, Emma Wheat and Arianna Perez-Locklear held everything down in the back contributing to her 2nd shutout of the season for our Freshman goalkeeper Arianna Hairston.
St. Georges baseball recently moved into the top 5 position in the State being led by senior pitcher Zach Hart who recently pitched a complete game against a formerly undefeated Sussex Tech team. He also posted an RBI double in the 6-2 win for the Hawks and has been nominated for Delawareonline’s student athlete of the week. With a record of 10-2, the baseball team looks to finish their final six game stretch strong to have momentum heading to the postseason.
The boys lacrosse team has battled to a 4-5 record with 6 games left to play. The Hawks look to make a statement in the final regular season games against conference opponents Concord, Middletown, and Hodgson as they position the team for a successful effort in the postseason open tournament. St. Georges will be honoring their seniors in their game against Alexis I. duPont on May 8th.
The girls lacrosse team started their season with 3 wins in a row before meeting a stiff competition pool in the weeks that followed. St. Georges will try to regain their steam in their final three games against conference opponents Concord and Appo and non-conference Indian River. Ashley Wormer was selected as Delaware Online Student Athlete of the Week for week 1 with her 3 goals against Hodgson.
The St. Georges Track teams are undefeated in conference meets, each posting wins in their first three meets. Tyra Blakeney set a new school record for the high jump at 5’4” in the Panther Invitational at Poly Tech. The girls’ team finished 3rd overall in the meet while the boys finished 9th overall.
The St. Georges Golf team is getting in the groove with a 6-6 record and a strong showing being such a young team. With no senior players and only two juniors, Lydia Mankus and Alex Bloemker are making a strong showing in the top 4. Newcomer sophomores Josh Freeman and Jake Simpson have been medalists twice each in matches this year with no competitive golf experience prior to this season. Josh has the team's lowest score so far with a 39 shot at DuPont Country Club against Sallies.

Gary Brightwell: NFL Dream Comes True
Check out this great article about Gary Brightwell. Gary attended St. Georges for three years. He transferred to St. Frances Academy in Baltimore his senior year to face better competition. Gary was a quiet young man who worked incredibly hard in the classroom and on the field to improve himself. He had a challenging journey, but he accomplished his goal of being drafted into the NFL. Check out this terrific article about Gary Brightwell's journey to the NFL:
The Colonial Athletic Association announced Tuesday that freshman Aidan Riley (Class of 2020) has been named the conference's Player of the Week after helping the University of Delaware baseball team take 3-of-4 games from Hofstra. Riley hit .400 on the week with his first career home run, a double, nine RBI and three runs scored. He delivered a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the 10th inning in the series' opener Friday night. On Sunday, he slugged his first career home run, as part of a 3-for-5 afternoon with four RBIs and he also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 7-5 Saturday win.
A member of the St. Georges Class of 2012 was named Appoquinimink School District Elementary School Teacher of the Year for 2021-2022. Melodie completed the Early Childhood Education career program at St. Georges instructed by our current Early Childhood Education instructor, Mrs. Nikki Bowe. Ever since she was a little girl, Melodie knew she wanted to be a teacher. Commenting on her experience at St. Georges, Ms. Miller said, "I was able to attain the knowledge and hands-on experience that most teachers don't receive until their college years. I am the teacher that I am today because of the advantage I've gained from being part of the Early Childhood Education program at St. Georges Technical High School."
