PRINCIPAL CORNER WITH MRS. GREEN
At our recent PLC Day, our teachers had a chance to look at our math data at the mid-year point and then discuss strategies to get all of the students to their goals by June. The most effective way to achieve this for all students is through:
Teacher Clarity
· The teacher knows what students are supposed to be learning (Curriculum)
· The students know what they are supposed to be learning (Learning Intentions)
· The teacher and students know what success looks like (Success Criteria)
Having teacher clarity promotes good student engagement because the students know what the learning goal is (through I can statements) and they know what success looks like (through rubrics) that are targeted, measurable, and specific.
So, what does Vickers mid-year data look like? It looks really good! We are very pleased to say that at the midway point in the school year, 81% of Vickers students are exceeding or meeting the goal!
Way to go!

There are free referee clinics provided by the division if this interests you. Please contact Mr. Whitrow for more information: Rwhitrow@srsd119.ca
The Basketball Season
The basketball season is at the halfway point here at Vickers. We have 7 teams participating in league play this year, which is an impressive amount of teams. We also have a grade 5 team that has been busy practicing at lunch and will soon play their first game of the season. The girls 7/8 team had some success at the Winter Classic Tournament hosted here at Vickers winning a silver medal. Playoffs will be here before we know it so good luck to all the Vikings involved with basketball this season.

The Honorable Dustin Duncan, Minister of Education, has officially proclaimed February 6th -10th FSL Education Week in recognition of the importance of French language in enhancing education in Saskatchewan. We have planned a few fun activities to recognize one of the different learning opportunities offered at École Vickers School.

PINK SHIRT DAY! FEBRUARY 15TH
We invite students and staff to wear pink on February 15th to show their support against bullying.
Pink Shirt Day started in 2007, when a grade nine student in Nova Scotia was bullied by classmates for wearing a pink shirt to school. Taking notice, two students rallied their peers to send a message to the bullies. The next day, the halls were filled with students in pink t-shirts.
Pink Shirt Day started because those two boys chose to do something about bullying rather than stand by and watch it happen. Now the movement is worldwide, educating and inspiring others to stand together and take action against violence and bullying.
Music Program
All Vickers Music students will be performing at the Prince Albert Music Festival in March. The Grade 5-8 Band students and the choir will participate in the large ensemble classes, the Grade 4 Music students will be playing their northern spirit flutes, and we have several students participating as vocal and/or instrumental soloists or in small ensembles (duets, quartets, etc.). We have a lot of work ahead of us to prepare for Festival, and a lot of reward awaiting us as well! Parents and guardians, please take note of whether your child is bringing home their band instrument to practice. We only can progress forward as a group if everyone is putting in the effort required.
Choir will perform on March 3rd, vocals on March 4th-5th, instrumental solos and small ensembles March 8th-10th, and bands March 13th-16th. Performances will be held during the school day and are open to the public. Stay tuned for more information!

The fee is $10.75 for Kindergarten and $21.00 for Gr 1-8 & Dev Ed.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Our staff parking lots are a “no drop off zone” as they are out of bounds for students.
We urge parents to support us in this safety endeavor by dropping off your children on the west side of the school on Olive Diefenbaker Drive; on Bradbury Drive, east of the Special Needs bus zone and between Gisi Road and Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
We encourage the children to cross all streets in a safe manner by crossing at the corner or at cross walks. Teacher supervision is also provided at our major crosswalks.
The Community Club rink parking lot is the bus pick up zone after school for our parents to meet their children for pick up. Please refrain from turning around in the driveways, as this is disruptive to the homeowners.
