A Message from the Administrative Team
Greenwood Students and Families:
Week number one is in the books, and we are off to a great start! We would like to thank our teachers, students, and parents for the successful beginning to the new school year.
A few reminders for parents and students:
1. Elementary parents in afternoon carline – please keep your nametag visible until your child is in the car. This will allow Dr. Snodgrass or others to ensure your child has been loaded in the car.
2. Secondary students are to stay on the Missouri State campus for lunch unless they have a signed parent permission form and designated pass to leave. Parents – please help us with this safety protocol.
3. Parents are reminded to keep their child’s Bear Pass loaded with sufficient funds, to avoid charging for lunch.
4. Thursday of each week is designated as Bluejay pride day. We encourage everyone to wear his or her Greenwood apparel on Thursday. Our booster club is selling Jay Wear, visit our website for ordering details.
5. Please consider joining our Greenwood Parent Association (GPA) and the Greenwood Booster Club. Your membership is vital to both organizations. You can join the Booster Club online at Greenwood Athletic and Debate Boosters.
6. Interest in our school continues to grow, as our enrollment currently stands at an all-time high with 438 students in grades K-12. Please do your part to be welcoming to all our new students and parents.
7. We want to thank Jennifer Grace for putting together a tribute to Sue Baldwin in the case near the main office. Ms. Baldwin was a long-time art teacher here and recently passed away. She was loved and will be missed.
8. We want to thank our parent volunteers for assisting in so many first week activities:
- Faculty Breakfast – Elisha Jayarao and Michelle DuMontier
- “Doughnut” cry party for kindergarten parents – Amanda Montileone, Brooke Evans, Katy Shaw, Amanda Lindsey, Jennifer Agnew, and Blair Usery
- Bulletin boards - Allison McQueary and Amanda Lindsey (along with a host of others)
- Cleaning and organizing our trophy cases - Allison McQueary and Debbie Rollinson
- Thank you to the Reeb family and Calhoun family for bringing in donuts for the staff!
- Thank you to GPA for our goodies in the teacher’s lounge.
- Swanky Party for the amazing balloon arch!
- Springfield Yard Cards for the first day signs!
This is just a small sample; we notice and appreciate your assistance!
Have a great weekend!
Ron & Jeni

From the Counselors
WELCOME BACK!
Here are a few tips offered by your Greenwood counselors to consider as we prepare for a great year! (This is a repeated article from last year’s first newsletter, but it never hurts to remind ourselves of their importance.)
You can help your student(s) be most prepared for the return to school by initiating or suggesting a few of these routines: Look Ahead & Expect Success:
- Prepare yourself for early mornings by readying what you can the night before. Being ready for a school morning will reduce the stress and chao
- Review your class syllabi to get a sense for what you will be covering. Make some memory aids to help you remember your schedule and other important items.
- Make a list and stock up on the supplies/materials you will need. Purchasing some new school supplies can help ease the transition and get you excited for the school year instead of dreading it.
- Schedule Your Time – Everyday counts! It may seem that your whole day has every timeslot filled, but many find comfort in established routines where everything from mealtimes to chores, to classes, to studying, and leisure have their own timeslots. Remember to include family time!
- Manage Your Distractions - It's important to be diligent about how to manage time and resources because they have a way of creeping up on us.
- Set Your Goals - Write down your goals; set priorities. Build habits that will help you achieve your intentions. Review your goals often assessing your progress to stay motivated!
- Establish a Sleep Schedule - It's important to be well rested for each day. Lack of sleep will impact one’s behavior, academic performance, and physical and emotional health. Make your rest (and nutrition) a priority!
- Finding Resources - Take advantage of every available resource. Continue to look for ways to get help.
- Get Motivated - You must remain in the driver’s seat; you have the power to make the most out of your day. Prepare for a fresh start with a positive attitude!
