Celebrations & Birthday Treats
Our campus follows the CISD Handbook in regards to celebration food items in order to promote healthy choices and be mindful of food allergies that children may have. Below is an excerpt from the 2019-2020 CISD Handbook:
We encourage healthy food choices whenever possible. Although a parent or guardian is not prohibited from providing food for a school-designated function or for children in the child’s classroom for his or her birthday, please be aware that children in the school may have severe allergies to certain food products. For this reason, all goods should store bought with the ingredients listed on the label. Therefore, it is imperative to discuss this with the child’s teacher prior to bringing any food in this circumstance. Occasionally, the school or a class may host certain functions or celebrations tied to the curriculum that will involve food. The school or teacher will notify students and parents of any known food allergies when soliciting potential volunteers for bringing food products. Goodie bags, balloons, party favors and other items are prohibited and such items provided during the school day will not be delivered to the student(s).
Due to these guidelines, we have chosen to celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria. This allows each child to be recognized on their special day! While our hope is that families do not feel obligated to bring additional treats, please note that any additional food items that parents do choose to send would need to be communicated to the child’s teacher prior to that day, follow the guidelines of the handbook listed above, and be cleared by our school nurse.
