ACEE Grant in Action Mrs. Anderson
I would like to thank ACEE for the support they have given my classes, and especially for the most recent donation of a classroom set of Ground Zero by Alan Gratz. The books had only recently arrived, and the students were very excited.
I was introduced to this book during a summer professional development at NSU. With the events in Afghanistan, I knew I wanted to share this book with my students.
We listened to the audiobook, and the students loved it. They were making real-world connections. The dual perspective caused them to look at the impact on Americans and the Afghan people. Before reading this, many of my students had no idea we were at war in Afghanistan, or why.
Additionally, many of my students have sought out other books by Alan Gratz. Having a book for each student will make a tremendous difference in our ability to study the literary elements in the book. It will also allow students to re-read and check for understanding.
I so appreciate the support ACEE gives our teachers and students. The books you have purchased for my classroom have opened the world to my students. Thank you.
Sincerely;
Vicki Anderson
