Principal's Note
As we step into the month of February, I am delighted to extend warm greetings to each member of our school community. February brings with it a sense of renewal and anticipation as we continue our journey through the academic year.
Valentine's Day, a day synonymous with love and friendship, is just around the corner. This month, we encourage our students to reflect on the values of kindness, compassion, and empathy towards one another. Let us take this opportunity to celebrate the bonds of friendship that unite us as a school family.
Academically, our students continue to excel and demonstrate remarkable progress in their learning journeys. I want to commend our dedicated teachers and staff for their unwavering commitment to providing a nurturing and enriching educational environment. As we delve deeper into the curriculum, I encourage parents and guardians to engage actively in their child's education. Your involvement, support, and encouragement play a pivotal role in fostering a love for learning and academic success.
In closing, I want to express my sincere gratitude to our entire school community for your ongoing support and collaboration. Together, we will continue to inspire, empower, and educate the leaders of tomorrow.

Student Leadership Team
The GE Student Leadership Team has been learning how to enhance their perseverance and teamwork skills, with an "Obstacle Course" activity. At the start of this activity, students teamed up to list different obstacles they may face at school, and when we meet again the teams will go around and look at other teams lists to provide supportive comments on how they may be able to overcome the obstacles listed. On February 5, 2024 Student Leadership Team is scheduled to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the City Commission Meeting.

Therapy Dog
We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you! Our school community has welcomed a new member: a therapy dog who happens to be an adorable Golden Retriever puppy named Harlow! This furry addition is part of our ongoing commitment to creating a supportive and nurturing environment for our students. Therapy dogs are specially trained to provide comfort, support, and companionship; USD 490 is already home to four therapy dogs who serve at Blackmore, EMS, and EHS. We believe that having one in our school will have a positive impact on the well-being of our students and staff. We want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority, and the therapy dog is being trained to interact safely with people of all ages. We will be incorporating opportunities for students to interact with the therapy dog in a controlled and supervised manner sometime in the future and we encourage you to engage with your child about this exciting addition to our school community. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Simmons. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to create a caring and inclusive environment for all of our students.
