Help Us Plan the Cannon Garden
About the Challenge
Each grade level is assigned 3 hexagon shaped raised planters to plant and take care of in the Cannon garden area. Your challenge is to design a possible garden for your grade level.
- you will hear the book in class
- your teacher will give you a garden plan packet to get started
Here is a look at the layout of the garden
Step 1
- Research plants that will grow in our area of Texas
- Decide on a theme for your garden plan. Will your garden be a butterfly garden, a wildflower garden, a salsa garden or something else?
- Use your planning sheet to decide which plants you would like to plant and how you would like to arrange them.
Step 2
- Use the other side of your planning sheet to make a detailed planting map of one hexagon planter
- Use symbols to represent the plants
- Give information about each plant
- 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will find the perimeter and area of the planter
Step 3
- Use what you know about the plants in your design to make a color drawing of your proposed garden to show what it will look like when the plants are fully grown
Step 4
- Staple all your design sheets together
- Make sure your name is clearly visible
- Turn them in to Mrs. Wagner by Friday, April 12
Celebrations
- All garden design proposals will be celebrated in a Friday assembly
- Mrs. Blizzard and the teachers of each grade level will choose a design or designs to be the inspiration for the each grade level's garden space
- If the garden includes edible plants, those plants will be part of our Cannon salad bar!
How cool is that?! You can grow food to be included in the Cannon Cafe!
Turn in your design by Friday, April 12
Each grade level will choose one design plan to use in planning their grade level garden
