CRES Parent Update 9-10-23

The school year is up and running! It is hard to believe it is almost mid-September!

The Cub Run PTA is up and running for the school year as well! We are always looking for more parents to join our meetings and be a voice in PTA decisions! Our next PTA meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 14 (see flyer below)! Follow the CRES PTA on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/cubruncubspta

We are looking forward to having a Cub Run SCA again this year! Information will be going home soon about our fall SCA elections. Each year the SCA sponsors opportunities for parents to purchase additional Cub Run spirit wear for their children and themselves. Proceeds from the spirit wear sales go to the SCA account. This allows the SCA officers and members a small budget for SCA activities (running the Cub Run school store, any special activities for keeping up our outside classroom area, etc.). SCA Cub Spirit Wear Sales are from September 11-22!

Lastly, just a reminder that the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be taking their math and reading SOL September Growth Tests this coming Wednesday and Thursday, September 13 and 14. The tests are scheduled for 9:00 am on both days.

Hi Cub Run Families!

Our PTA is so excited for the new school year! We have lots of exciting events planned (some favorites from last year and some new ideas)!

The board enjoyed meeting and talking to so many of you at the Back to School Night! We passed out a QR code for you to join the PTA and are attaching it here as well! Link to join the PTA for $5/per adult. This helps to keep you informed of all the events and gives you ways to get involved in as big or little ways as you want! We would love to have you join today!

Please plan to join us for our first PTA meeting AND Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting for the new playground on Thursday, September 14th from 6-7:30pm. This will be our CUBS first chance to play on the new structure! There will be treats for everyone!

We then welcome adults to join us in the library for a short meeting where we share ideas for the school year and ways you can get involved!

Standards of Learning (SOL) Growth Tests in Grades 3-5

As you may remember from last year, the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests have moved to a growth model. You can find more information about these tests at this Virginia Department of Education link:

Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be taking the September SOL growth tests on the dates below:

Wednesday, September 13: Reading

Thursday, September 14: Math

The Mobile Dentist will be at Cub Run September 14 and 15! Papers went home with students this week! You can fill out the paper sent home and send back to school, or you can sign up online at www.MySchoolDentist.com

We are excited to host a JMU Math Night at Cub Run on Thursday, September 28 6:30-7:30 pm! JMU professors and students (future teachers!) will host a math night with lots of fun math games to play! There will be door prizes, and each student will get to take home a math game to play! We hope you can join us!

As you are aware, CRES is on a six day rotation for our specials classes. Each week we will share the upcoming days of the rotation with parents. Here are the rotations for the next two weeks:
