    A Letter from North Administrators

    Mustang Community,

It is hard to believe that the 2021/2022 school year is finally here! We are so excited to welcome all of our Mustangs back to our building and provide them with all of the experiences that the BVN culture can provide. Please remember that per district guidelines, masks are mandated for all individuals in our building. You can refer to the infographic below regarding the bell schedule we will follow this year. It will also be posted on our BVN homepage.

Freshmen and New Mustang Orientation will take place on Tuesday, August 17 from 7:40 to 10:45 a.m. This orientation will allow New Mustangs to get information about BVN, provide them with a tour of the building, allow them to see each of their teachers, and they will receive their district-issued MacBook. Also note that the first 3 days of school (Wednesday, August 18- Friday, August 20) will follow a 7 period schedule. We will have a picnic outside for all of our students during lunch time on the first day of school. This will be a fun way to welcome the Mustang family back with music, prizes, backyard games, and messages from our Student Government.

Please mark your calendar for Back To School Night, Tuesday, August 24 from 6:00-8:00. All parents will have the opportunity to meet their students’ teachers and learn important information about the upcoming year in each of their classes. Videos from each teacher will be available on Canvas for parents unable to attend.

Mustang Athletics also start next week on Monday, August 16. Please refer to the BVN Athletic Website for any and all information regarding fall sports.

As it is every year at this time, we know there is a ton of information regarding the beginning of school. Please know we are available for any questions you have as we embark upon this new year. We can’t wait to see everyone next week!

    BVN Bell Schedules

August 18, 19 and 20, students will be following the traditional schedule without North Time. Starting on August 23, Monday and Wednesday will be the odd schedule, Tuesday and Thursday will be the even schedule and Friday will be the traditional schedule with North Time. This will be the weekly schedule.

    BVN Athletics

    Student-Athletes Action Needed for 2021-22

The athletic physical form has been updated for the 2021-22 season. If your student will be participating in a KSHSAA sponsored sport at Blue Valley North in the upcoming school year, every student-athlete needs a new physical completed, signed and dated (May 1, 2021, or after) by a physician. Here is a link to all the forms & physical on the BVN website PHYSICAL2021. We encourage you to get this completed over the summer. The physical is just part of the paperwork required. All forms need to be printed, read, signed by a parent and student, and returned to BVN by August 13 by 3:00 p.m. Please get your paperwork in early so your student doesn't have to wait in a long line.

    Cross Country (new)

Cross Country season will officially begin this coming Monday, August 16, and we could not be more excited! Below you will find information and important dates that will ensure we start the season off smoothly:

    1. Physicals and paperwork are due to the office by August 13. Friendly reminder: if you do not turn in your physical before the first day of practice, YOU CAN NOT PRACTICE. The correct papers must be turned in before anyone can participate in athletic practices or events. Paperwork needs to be turned into the front office at BVN. Coaches will NOT collect them for you.
    2. The first day of practice is Monday August 16th at 3:15 until 5 p.m. We will be meeting on the track. Look for the cross country tent!
    3. The parent meeting will be Saturday August 21st from 8-9:00 a.m. following our team time trial at Shawnee Mission Park.
    4. The 2nd wave of our Cross Country gear website will be up and running from August 16-22. We highly encourage every athlete to buy the combo pack so we look cohesive at meets. A link will be sent out to the community once the store re-opens.
    5. Make sure to visit our team website, bvnxc.com and sign up to be on our email list so that you get all the latest information about BVN cross country. A pop up menu will prompt you to sign up as soon as you visit the website.

Your coaches cannot wait for this season to get underway! If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach Riley via email at mariley@bluevalleyk12.org

    Lady Golfers and Parents

The summer almost over and any lady golfer should be preparing for our upcoming fall season. Please e-mail Coach Lierz Davis at jlierz@bluevalleyk12.org if you have a daughter who is thinking about coming out for the team so that she can get you added to the group e-mail to communicate information regarding tryouts, etc. Thanks!

    Volleyball Team

Do you have an incoming 9th grader interested in VOLLEYBALL? Please fill out this interest form. https://forms.gle/6CCBWTaeB6RWXLAp7 . Email Coach Allin, MAllin@bluevalleyk12.org , with any questions.

Please Join The Mustang Club during 2021-22!

Our parent community has been integral in contributing to our status as one of the best high schools in the state of Kansas and a leading high school across the nation.

Please support The Mustang Club (the former BVN Parent Booster Club). It financially supports BVN's extracurricular activities (similar to a PTO/PTA), and over the last 6 years, has granted over a half million dollars to support our school’s extracurricular activities, organizations, and athletic teams. We could not provide the depth and breadth of opportunities without your help through memberships and donations of your time.

The Mustang Club needs your support! Membership is down and volunteers are in short supply. Here are some options for you to consider:

    · Become a Mustang Club member at one of the five membership levels;

    · Purchase spirit wear from The Mustang Club website (www.bvnmustangs.com);

    · Volunteer on a Mustang Club committee to support a specific event or cause; and

    · Take advantage of sponsorships for companies wanting to support BVN financially.

Visit The Mustang Club website at www.bvnmustangs.com. This organization is completely run by parent volunteers so every dollar donated goes to benefit BVN students. It is a 501(c)3 organization so your contributions are tax deductible.

Thank you for your support and consideration and GO MUSTANGS!

National Honor Society Info for 2021-22 School Year

Are you a current Sophomore or Junior with a 3.5 GPA or higher? Are you interested in being a candidate for National Honor Society induction in the fall? If so, please read on. Students need 40 hours of community service from January 1, 2021 through September 30, 2021. These hours must come from non-profit organizations. We will not count hours such as walking dogs, babysitting a neighbor, helping someone move, tutoring, etc. Students should already be on x2VOL, the platform that tracks hours, and should be recording and verifying hours on this online platform. An individual from the organization must verify hours with an email that is from a .org email address. Look online for opportunities that are posted on the x2VOL website. If you are questioning if hours work, please contact Mrs. Cornelius and Mrs. Stein to get prior authorization.

Information will be sent out in the fall. But, tentative dates for the initial information meeting are Tuesday, September 28, and Wednesday, September 29, 2021 (possible times are before school, after school or NT). Attendance at one of these two dates is mandatory! We will hand out all information to students at this meeting. Other than community service hours, students are not working on anything else before this meeting. Mandatory induction practice is Monday, November 8, 2021 at 7:00am and Mandatory Induction is Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 6:30pm. Mustang Medical Messages

New Vaccine Requirement - 2021-2022 School Year

    Dear parents/guardians of incoming 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, and 12th students,

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Immunization Program has implemented a new vaccine requirement for students entering 7th grade, 8th, 11th, and 12th grade in the 2021-22 school year. KDHE now requires two doses of the Meningococcal vaccine to be administered to maintain vaccine compliance.

    • Meningococcal (Serogroup A,C,W,Y): Two doses required. Doses should be given at entry to 7th grade (11-12 years) and 11th grade (16-18 years). For children 16-18 years, only one dose is required.
    • Phasing In Menigococcal (Serogroup A, C,W,Y): For the 2020- 2021 school year: Children entering 7th and 8th grade: one dose of MenACWY at school entry. Children entering 11th and 12th grade having received a previous dose: one dose of MenACWY at school entry will complete the series. Children entering 11th and 12th grade with no previous doses: one dose of MenACWY at school entry will complete the series.

Detailed immunization requirements by age group are listed on the 02/2019 version of the Kansas Certificate of Immunization (KCI).

Students who have begun, but have not completed the required immunizations, may enroll and remain in school while completing the required immunizations as quickly as permitted by immunization requirements, if a physician or local health department certifies that the student has received the most recent appropriate immunizations in all required series. Kansas law provides the following alternatives to immunizations:

    • An annual written statement signed by a licensed physician stating the physical condition of the child to be such that the tests or inoculations would seriously endanger the life or health of the child; or
    • A written statement signed by one parent or guardian that the child is an adherent of a religious denomination whose religious teachings are opposed to such inoculations.

All immunization decisions should be made by the family physician or the Johnson County Health Department. If your child has transferred to Blue Valley, you are responsible for providing records that document the immunizations either have been completed or are in the process of completion. If a student’s immunizations are not current (most recent appropriate inoculation in all series) or current immunization waivers, specifically religious or medical waivers, are not in place; the student will be excluded from school.

Student health requirements are important as we partner with families to create a safe and effective learning environment. All health forms must be completed and returned to the school nurse prior to the first day of school.

Your school nurse will be glad to answer any questions. Blue Valley North’s school nurse is Amanda Collichio and she can be reached by email at AJCollichio@bluevalleyk12.org or by phone at (913) 239-3013.
