Principal's Message
Good Evening Yowell Families,
What a beautiful weekend! I hope you were able to enjoy some time outside! Last year we hosted an indoor trick or treating event. We would like to do that again this year but need your help. Please fill out this google form to share how you can help. Our tentative date is Friday, October 27th.
Please make dismissal changes prior to 2:30pm each day. We have to write notes and they are delivered throughout the school just after 2:30pm therefore calling after 2:30pm complicates our system and we run the risk of a teacher forgetting a verbal change over the phone. If you know your child will have a dismissal change coming up it is ok to let the office know in advance. We also do not dismiss from the office after 3pm. Our parking lot doubles as a staging area for curbside. This makes it very challenging to dismiss after 3pm. Please plan your early dismissal pick ups prior to 3pm.
This year our school will take part in a study that helps staff find students needing more support. We will use the Early Identification Sytem (EIS). This will help us to identify students who need support with paying attention, completing tasks, regulating emotions, creating positive peer relationships, and managing negative emotions like stress and worry.
The EIS has two parts. A part for teachers to complete and a part for students to complete. A full description of the study is included below. If you wish for your student to opt out of this study, please complete the opt-out form attached to this email and return to Mrs. Gibson in person or via email at bg5945@ccpsweb.org by October 11, 2023. Our students will be taking this survey during the day on October 16, 2023. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. EIS Parent Opt Out.pdf
This Friday we ask our Yowell family to wear green, in recognition of Cerebral Palsy Day.
Have an amazing evening!
Mrs. Fiscus
If you are able and would like to donate to our musical, please click here to view the musical's Amazon wish list. If you would like to send in a check, please make it out to Yowell Elementary School and put "musical donation" in the memo line. Putting on a musical is very expensive so we appreciate all of the help we can get!
CCPS is offering drive thru flu shot clinics on Saturday, October 7, and Saturday, October 14 from 9am to 12pm at the CCPS Central Office.

October is National Farm to School Month, a time to celebrate connections happening all over the country between schools, early care and adult centers, and local farms! To kick off the month, Virginians celebrate Virginia Farm to School Week during the first full week of October.
Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) is joining Virginia Farm to School Week celebration next week. Events will include participating in the Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth on Thursday, October 5, 2023. During the Crunch, students and staff will crunch into local apples from Thornton River Orchard to make some noise for Virginia farm to school programs.
Farm to School enriches the connection communities have with fresh, healthy food and local food producers by changing food purchasing and education practices at schools and early care settings. Students gain access to healthy, local foods as well as education opportunities such as school gardens, cooking lessons, and farm field trips. Agriculture is Virginia’s largest industry, and supporting local farms increases employment opportunities and community food security.
