A Note from Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
As we near the start of the school year, please look out for an email this evening, with class placements.
DCPS Central Office has shared several health and safety updates with schools and families. You may visit https://dcpsstrong.com/health/ to view the information. I am sharing a brief overview of some of those DCPS protocols.
- Masks are optional within DC Public Schools, and DCPS will foster an environment where all students and staff, whether they choose to wear a mask or not, feel respected.
- All students and staff need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test for the first day of school. You can learn more at DCPSstrong.com/testing.
- DCPS will report positive cases at schools and provide notifications to students and staff in a classroom with a positive individual.
- COVID-19 vaccination is required for students ages 12 and older, and highly encouraged for all students.
- DCPS will continue investing in our HVAC systems to support well-ventilated spaces at every school. This includes state-of-the-art HEPA filters in classrooms and air quality sensors throughout the building.
- Families should screen their children for symptoms at home. Practice healthy routines with your student like staying home and get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms. Schools will not conduct daily health screenings upon arrival.
- Family Access at Student Arrival and Dismissal: To ensure safe school operations, parent/guardians are not permitted into buildings during arrival and dismissal.
- Visitor Policy: To ensure safe school operations, community members and families are not permitted into school buildings without an appointment. Government identification is required for entry.
The Hyde Addison ES team is working with the district to ensure all protocols are followed as it revolves around family engagement opportunities. This includes some of our planned events such as, Art All Night, the Hispanic Heritage Program, International Day, the Black History Program, Spelling Bee, Poetry Slam, the AAPI Heritage Program and any mid-year or end of the year productions, just to name a few. The Hyde-Addison ES team will share information with families, as applicable.
Events such as the open houses and the upcoming Sneak Peek opportunities have also been created to support the transition into this school year.
For resources and information about the District of Columbia Government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response and recovery efforts, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov. Please visit dcpsreopenstrong.com for DCPS updates and resources.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal
