Administration Update
Dear GMS Families,
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
As we move into the final term of the school year, we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of our middle school community. Even with the challenges of the gym flooding, we have had a great 2023 so far!
In addition to academics, our students have also been actively involved in extracurricular activities. Our sports teams have been performing exceptionally well, and our band, art and electives programs have continued to showcase the talents of our students. We would like to congratulate all students who have participated in these activities and commend them for their hard work and dedication.
As we move into April, we look forward to celebrating Earth Day and National Poetry Month. These events provide an opportunity for our students to reflect on the importance of the environment and to appreciate the beauty of language. We encourage all students to participate in these activities and to make a positive impact on our school and community.
Finally, we would like to express my appreciation to our staff, parents, and guardians for their continued support and dedication to our school. Thank you for helping our students achieve their goals and succeed in their education.
Thank you for your commitment to our middle school community. I look forward to continuing our journey of growth and learning together.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bobbi Hunter, Principal
Mrs. Stephanie Read, Vice-Principal

A New Program at GMS
“LEND AN EAR”
WHAT is LEND AN EAR?
Glenrosa Middle School is launching a new lunch hour program called “LEND AN EAR”, starting Tuesday, April 18!
WHY DO WE NEED THIS?
Adolescents, just like adults, may find the best relief from simply articulating their worries and concerns. “Sharing our emotions reduces our stress while making us feel closer to others we share with and providing a sense of belonging. When we open up our inner selves and people respond with sympathy, we feel seen, understood, and supported. It feels good to know there’s someone there to rely on who cares enough to take the time to listen.” (Ethan Kross researcher and author of the book “Chatter”)
WHO? WHERE? WHEN?
Lend an Ear is a program for any and all GMS students. It will provide students time to “chat”in a comfortable atmosphere…room 255. This program will be made available during lunch hours (12:10-12:35), and will be by teacher and/or student-referral. Juice boxes, hot chocolate, and a listening ear will be available.
If you have further questions, please contact the office.
Caring Communities at GMS
GMS Counselor Corner - Focus: Self Care Strategies
What is self-care and why is it important? Self-care refers to any intentional actions and practices that individuals engage in to promote their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It involves taking care of oneself, such as engaging in activities that promote rest, relaxation, and stress reduction, maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine, seeking medical attention when necessary, and cultivating positive relationships. Self-care is an essential part of maintaining good mental and physical health, and it can help individuals to manage stress, prevent burnout, and improve their overall quality of life.
Creating good self-care strategies involves identifying activities that help you feel relaxed, refreshed, and renewed. Here are a few tips to get started:
- Prioritize self-care: Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. Set aside time each day to take care of yourself.
- Find activities that work for you: Experiment with different self-care activities to find what works best for you. It could be anything from taking a bath, going for a walk, or reading a book.
- Make it a habit: Incorporate self-care into your daily routine so it becomes a habit. Set reminders on your phone or calendar to help you remember to take care of yourself.
- Be kind to yourself: Self-care is not selfish. Remember to be kind to yourself and give yourself permission to take a break when you need it.
- Seek support: Don't be afraid to reach out to friends, family, or a professional if you need help creating or sticking to your self-care plan.
