Shifting to Canvas: A Weekly Update

On July 1, 2022, Canvas will replace itslearning as the platform where curriculum is developed and applied to teacher courses. Canvas will facilitate student access to learning, completion of assignments, and teacher feedback through various mediums.

Professional development throughout the spring and summer months will be provided to prepare instructional staff to implement the features of Canvas as well as support teachers in migrating content from itslearning to Canvas. Each Wednesday, look for this Shifting to Canvas: A Weekly Update newsletter, which will provide information regarding access to the platform, a preview of features, and updates around professional development opportunities.

For the 2021-22 school year, itslearning will continue to be the HCPS Curriculum Management System and Learning Management System, housing all curricular resources for teachers and students through June 30, 2022.

Canvas will be available for preview by staff in preparation for use in 2022-2023. You will have access to Canvas in the next few days. When access is available, you'll receive an email.

Log in to Canvas and find a Sandbox course:

1. Go to harford.instructure.com and login.

2. Open the Dashboard.

3. Open the sandbox titled with your name. It is an unpublished course.

What can I do in my Sandbox course?

• After you watch the First Glance video, included in this newsletter, explore the features and tools that Canvas offers.
• Use this Sandbox course to practice setting up content during our Spring professional learning.
