Young Adult Diverse Books Book Club Next Book is We Deserve Monuments
The YADB Book Club met on Tuesday to discuss the twist and the second half of As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow during ARE time. We discussed this book as an example of speculative fiction and when asked about their opinions about the author's choices, the group said they love "unreliable narrators." Katouh's book takes place during the Syrian Revolution and students were able to make direct connections to present day wars, the experiences of civilians in war time and post traumatic stress disorder.
The next book the YADB Book Club will be reading is We Deserve Monuments by Jas Hammonds. The publisher's note states, "Family secrets, a swoon-worthy romance, and a slow-burn mystery collide in We Deserve Monuments, a YA debut from Jas Hammonds that explores how racial violence can ripple down through generations." Please stop by the library to pick up your copy. We'll meet to discuss the book in late February or early March.
